Yanking open the first door they encountered on their way to the garden, Macy dived inside and pulled Gerard with her. The abrupt movement felt awfully familiar like an instinct, definitely triggering some stupid memories where they would tug each other into the empty rooms just for quick 'deals' in case of a dire emergency.

To be fair, whirling on her high heels and glancing up at the hooded mischief in her villain's eyes that she couldn't understand, she had a feeling that a new deal was in the making. Yet she failed to think of any at this particular case of family disaster.

Biting her lower lip, she absently flipped the coin and unconsciously took a few steps back until her back came in contact with the brim of the desk full of folders and papers. Waiting for him to say something instead of watching her funnily with his arms crossed across his chest would be a good move, but she had never been that patient:

"Before you say it," Macy spoke, motioning her fist to the door behind him. "I don't think nothing you can offer can convince me to let you cut ties with your own family, kick them out of the party, or think Bernard as a true detective." She made a face when his lips slightly trembled to a smirk. "Seriously? Why is he like that—"

"Remember that question I promised to ask you three times?" Gerard inquired suddenly, not only cutting her words off but also all the functioning paths of her mind. As if she couldn't, he elaborated with a tiny smirk on the corner of his lips. "So that you'd know I meant it and that it wasn't an impulse. It would also mean that,"

"That my answer would be real because I'd have enough time to think about it," Macy completed, trying to overcome the daze threatening to take her over with the likely direction of the conversation. She feigned a lopsided smirk, flipping the coin. "We were too careful about it for two powerful beings who decided to get married in like half an hour, sir."

"You made strong points on each case, Miss Wallace. That's hardly my fault," the villain teased, making her unconsciously beam at him despite all the nervous electricity racing in her veins.

She hardly realized her free hand clutching the brim of the desk with all her might when he took a step closer to her. On the one hand, it was ridiculous! They were arch-enemies. They had a fox together. They were married. They had a fake wedding in twenty minutes with the witness of everyone they had ever known, including their receptionist at the penthouse. Seriously? Who was even protecting the buildings now? Perhaps, she should have pointed that out, right? That would distract him and protect the world!

He was just a few inches away from towering her when he halted, and Macy had no idea if she was relieved or disappointed about the personal space he'd provided. There was an odd darkness in his gaze and the corner of his mouth that she'd found offending if they had been at the office and if she'd said something to him about the secret rituals of the cults. Yeah, he was one of those people who thought 'secret rituals' weren't so secret if you could find them on the internet, and then he would kiss the hell out of her. Wait, was he going to kiss her?

"Do you also remember that," he drawled in a husky hesitance, tilting his head to keep eye contact in contrast to her insisting on staring at his firm chest for the sake of some distraction! For the love of the gods, it was not working. He continued in veiled amusement at her efforts, "I was about to ask you at the yacht the morning after the Arcane party, but you stopped me."

Her widened gaze bounced to him, and she absently kept throwing the coin. "Yeah, but it wasn't fair. We had an investigation going on," she breathed. "If you'd asked it and if I'd answered, we would never have been able to find out Lisa, indeed, owned the Arcane. We would be while she was—"

"Run away with me," Gerard demanded, voice husky and firm as he expertly caught the coin before it could land on her palm. It was both the urgency of the command and the sincerity in his jade eyes that pinned her cruelly on her spot, making her feel like a victim of a spell that turned her to a statue with her palm staying open on the side. Indifferent to his own curse, he clarified, "Right now."
