"You're on time today." Sakura joked, pulling his leg as usual.
"Ah, you say like I'm always late." Kakashi replied in amusement. The silver haired hokage knew she would be quick with a retort. They both knew that timing was not his thing, but he was there when it mattered.
"Not always, but typically."
The two of them caught up for a bit until Kakashi excused himself to greet Kurenai and her daughter Mirai. It was events like this that made it more obvious how someone or the other was missing. There was an empty chair reserved at the front, with a rose placed in its seat. It was a tribute to Asuma.
While his ex students were settling down and starting a new chapter of their lives, Asuma didn't get the luxury of finishing the one he had started. The evidence of his presence was currently trying to grab at Kakashi's mask with plumps fingers as he held the child in his arms.
