They asked the hotel to make several sandwiches and a salad with blueberries and almonds that had a citrus dressing on the side at Wei's request.
Yunlan took the leftover fajitas for a morning snack.
They stopped and bought tea and coffee to go and 4 caramel apples that were wrapped and put in a carrying box.
Yunlan drove the loaner car to the forest parking lot. There were a lot of cars, even though it was only 8 A.M. Many hikers use the trails.
Yunlan and Wei weren't dressed for the rain forest weather. Daniel left them shopping bags with jeans, long sleeved Henleys and flannel shirts. There were hoodies and sturdy shoes in the right size.
"How did they know our sizes?" Shen Wei asked.

"Well, they are detectives, aren't they? And can size people up, so to speak." Yunlan laughed at his joke. "Or they asked Hong Fu or Da Qing. They will take the swing shift after we get back if we need more surveillance."
They went along the trail until they saw some white rocks in a vee pointing west. About 10 hikers passed them by quickly, headed for the top of the hill.
Wei and Zhao carefully moved through the ferns and small shrubs away from the trail for an hour. They stopped and ate, then continued in the same direction. Yunlan used his compass to determine the direction.
Wei had a natural sense of direction no matter where he was.
After another hour they saw the side of a building made of corrugated tin. While Yunlan was looking over the building, the door opened and Wei pulled him down by his sleeve. They crouched behind some small shrubs.
The person walked to the end of the building and climbed a ladder to the roof. Soon the whirring sound of helicopter blades disturbed the quiet woods. The helicopter had long tethers with lumber and canvas bags tied on.
The lumber and bags were lowered to the roof and the man waved. The helicopter left, and the tall trees that surrounded the building swung back and forth also waving.
Wei held the megaphone and put on the earphones. He heard the radio that the man used. He said:
"It's all clear. Come help me lower these things through the roof, Charlie."
Another person climbed the ladder and they opened a large trap door on the roof. Wei could see it clearly when they lifted it and slid the lumber and bags down below. "It's huge! They must have a lifter to open it. It looks like they slide things down on some ramp."
Yunlan snapped pictures of Charlie and his co-worker with his zoom camera on his phone.

"At least we know how they get supplies and people here. Let's keep listening," Yunlan said.
They listened all day, lying down and looking into the tree canopy. They took turns holding the device and Yunlan wrote down anything that seemed important on his tablet. He used his phone to record any conversations on radio or the criminals' phones.
