A Guardian fanfiction continuing from the end of Take Me Home. The lovers are enjoying each other, Yunlan working at SID and training Police and Search and Rescue dogs, Wei teaching at the University part time.
Rare and endangered animals are disap...
"Look out! Get those outta here and stop that dog!" Yunlan was yelling at Da Qing who accidentally let some cats get out into the main section of the dog training facility and the cat shelter. One of the new dog recruits ran after the cats. He wasn't in training yet, and was a wild puppy. The other dogs all barked at the cats but didn't chase them.
Longwei, Yunlan's personal Police Canine barked louder than the other dogs. He sat in the middle of the dog section and growled at the wayward puppy who scooted by him. Yunlan patted him on the head as he went by. "Good boy!"
Da Qing turned into his cat form, ran in front of the escapees and roared at them, hissing, "Get back on your side. Do you want to be thrown out in the streets?" The cats turned and ran for their door. They skidded around it so fast they slid into the wall across the hall, squeaking in surprise. Da Qing shut the door.
The shelter cats were afraid of Da Qing in his cat form. He is considered royalty: The King. If he demanded something, he got it. New cats abandoned on the street by their owners, or living feral were relaxed and happy to have the shelter, warm and cozy with others, and plentiful food as his subjects. They were grateful to Da Qing and wanted to follow him. He was certainly living up to his mission to keep his followers safe.
"You will get adopted into a forever home with people who will take care of you and love you. It may take a while but you are safe here in my palace so wait patiently." Da Qing promised them a better life.
Meanwhile, Yunlan grabbed the untrained pup and put him in a large kennel. "Stay!" He knew the newbie wouldn't stand still, having no training and being a puppy. The puppy wagged its tail and followed Yunlan to the door. He turned and kneeled down to the puppy's level. He couldn't resist picking it up and petting it. He wondered if Shen Wei would mind if he took him into the apartment, but thought better of it.

New Puppy Recruit
Shen was committed to cats and loved them, but he only tolerated dogs. He prefers them to be in the kennel instead of the flat. He didn't mind grown up dogs, but puppies were a bit too destructive for his taste.
"I will be satisfied playing with him in the training pen." Yunlan was so soft-hearted he didn't want to put the puppy back in the kennel, so he played with him for a half hour. He'd learned that getting attached was a bad idea and put the puppy in the pen. Every dog he trains will go live with a handler and work across the country in search and rescue and police work. The first two he trained went to live with their handlers after 6 months, breaking his heart.
He would always have Longwei, to whom he owed his life. He would never send Longwei to another handler. Shen Wei loved him too, because he saved Yunlan's life. Longwei lived in the flat, but liked being in the kennel if Yunlan was there.
Yunlan had begun training his new dogs in the shelter that Wei built behind their apartment building with the help of Lui and a hired Dixingrian whose power was animal communication. Lui did most of the training because Yunlan was still the Lord Guardian and needed to work at SID most days and some nights.
