Character names are very important--they're one of the most important things in the story crafting process.

Depending on your character's background will decide what the character's name will be.

If you're going to have a story based on Tokyo, following a Japanese boy, his name shouldn't be John Johnson.

A story in following someone who's family has lived in Luanda, Angola for centuries shouldn't be named Yekaterina Smirnoff.

It's important to have accurate names for characters because it makes the story more realistic. (It's a whole different thing if characters are living in a fantasy world.)

Here's an example: Someone from Saudi Arabia could be named Adara.

Someone from Brazil could be named Gael.

Someone from Finland could be named Aino.

It's important to research naming patterns for the culture you want to showcase in your story.

A good place to find names for your character is a website called 'behindthename'. It lets you pick out exactly what gender and origin you want for the name and gives you a list.
