God! Why was Sakthi doing this?

Why was he arguing with their dad?

It seemed like an impossibility suddenly becoming a possibility.

Vignesh had to admit, he hadn't expected what had happened.

With Sakthi as police, something's naturally fell to him. This was one of those it went a little but wrong-

"Do you realise what happened pa?" Sakthi demanded, "do you know how many people we killed today? Do you-"

"It was an accident" Appa interrupted, "they were collateral damage Sakthi."

His brother's fave hardened and closed off as if someone had shoved it in to a bucket of ice.

What came out next wasn't a shout, it was barely above a whisper.

"Is that what you think?" His brother asked, "Collateral damage."

He chuckled to himself then he looked at Dad and continued.. "Tell me... if I died today... would you have called me Collateral damage?"

Vignesh's blood froze in his veins. Everyone around looked just as struck as him. Especially Appa.

"What are you talking about?" he asked and there was a shake in his voice.

"I was right there... I was in the scene" Sakthi said, "A slight change, some turn there, some twist there. And then... instead of me walking into the house in my uniform. You would have gotten my corpse wearing my uniform. Who knows? Maybe there wouldn't even have been enough of corpse.."

"That wouldn't have happened" Sivan paled.

"How are you so sure?" Sakthi asked, "Tell me would I be collateral damage too?"

His brother and his father fought longer and harder, but Vignesh was stuck on his feet with that one question, 'what if Sakthi did die today?'

Maha didn't bother knocking, she walked into Vignesh's room and sat down on his bed, Vignesh was by his desk.

He'd seen her but didn't move to acknowledge her.

For a while they both were silent before,

"Why are you here?" Vignesh asked the same time Maha asked, "why did you do it?"

"What did I do?"  Vignesh answered her question with a question.

"This whole thing Vignesh" Maha yelled, "all of this is because of what you did at the factory. Why couldn't you be a little careful? Why are you so disastrous?"

He didn't need this right now, "Maha" he pleaded.

Maha's eyes grew red as she desperately tried not to cry, "They are fighting. They are so serious about it. He left the house. He was so angry. What if he never comes back?"

"That's ridiculous" he admitted, "he will come back. He is our big brother."

"How do you know?" She asked.

"I do" he replied.

She sighed heavily, "he said he could have died in the accident you caused today. You didn't even know that. How would you know this?"

"He wouldn't have died and he will come back" he announced determined, "I know. I just do."

Because he didn't know what he would do otherwise.
