19 : You Can't Fool Me

Start from the beginning

  "Oi!"

"Look in the mirror." He retorted. "Or the mayor of gay-town."

"Fuck you." EJ stuck his middle fingers up in his direction. "Gay's for boring people. I'm not boring."

  "But this guy, he's kinda..."

Jack flashed him a grin. "Handsome?"

"More like cheesy." Mickey corrected, harshly.

"Early 21st century, is cheesy good or bad?" EJ forgot that Jack didn't have the same grasp on their present as them, because the Doctor did.

  "It's bad."

"But bad means good, isn't that right?"

The Doctor looked at him as he climbed down the rig, both offended and confused."Are you saying I'm not handsome."

"And you're calling me gay..." EJ's face scrunched up. "And ugly apparently."

"We just stopped off, we need to refuel." Rose filled him in on the little things he didn't know. The blonde boy would've been fine living if Mickey didn't know, however. "Thing is, Cardiff's got this rift running through the middle of the city. It's invisible but it's like an earthquake fault between different dimensions."

"The rift was healed back in 1869." The Doctor added.

EJ put in his two cents. "Before I met them."

"Thanks to a girl named Gwyneth, cos these creatures called the Gelth, they were using the rift as a gateway, but she saved the world and closed it."

"But closing a rift always leaves a scar." Jack helped the effort. "And that scar generates energy, harmless to the human race..."

"But perfect for the Tardis," The Doctor grinned. "I just park it here for a couple of days, right on top of the scar..."

"Open up the engines, soak up the radiation..."

"Like filling her up with petrol!"

EJ sighed, knowing exactly where the conversation was going. "And off we go."

  "Into time!" Jack exclaimed.

They all chimed in, some more excited than others. "And space!"

"My God," Mickey looked at them wide eyed. "Have you seen yourselves? You all think you're so clever, don't you?"

  "Yep." The Doctor beamed.

  Rose agreed. "Yep!"

  "Yup." Jack nodded.

EJ wasn't as enthusiastic, but he humoured his friends. "Sure."

When they prepared themselves to leave, the Doctor suggested EJ stay back a moment to change. He was in his pyjamas again. They had a new rule that he wasn't allowed to go out in pyjamas, even if they were extremely comfortable.

Eventually, when EJ had sorted his hair out, they stepped out into the real world. Being in the sun always felt odd after time in the Tardis. Her light was artificial, as warning as it might have been, and it didn't do the same thing that the real sun did. The real light.

The Doctor started to talk as soon as the five of them were out in the world. "It'll take another 24 hours so we've got time to kill."

Mickey shifted uncomfortably. "That old lady's staring."

"Probably wondering what five people can do inside a small wooden box." Jack chuckled, crudely.

"What are you captain of? The Innuendo Squad?"
