Chapter Sixteen

"I've been busy, sorry."

"It's okay me too. How's everything going?"

"It's going, how about you? The she-devil?" I asked referring to Hayley.

"We are good... listen you know my birthday is next week."

"How could I forget? I've known you my entire life and you put a photo of the date as the profile picture in the group chat with Jason." I started the car and turned on the AC.

"Okay that's besides the point, are you coming over for it?"

"To Bend? Or to Jerome?"

"Jerome, you can stay at my parent's with me and Hayley. I rented a skiing cabin anyway." Morgan entered back to her apartment and settled on the couch.

"Can I stay with your mom?" I tried to annoy her.

"Ew shut the fuck up dude." I laughed at the grimace in Morgan's face.

"That never fails to make me laugh, but yes, I'll go. I've missed enough of your birthdays, who's going?"

"You better and the ones coming over are Jason, Norah, Michael, Hayley's friend Dana, Monique—"

"Wait Monique is going?"

"Of course... don't tell me you still have a crush on her. Kaden you knew her for less than a week." Morgan looked baffled.

I can't lie and say I don't still have a slight crush on her.

"Let's not stray from the conversation."

"Sure... I also wanted your help with something." Morgan scratched her neck nervously.

"What did you do now Morgan?" I sighed.

"Nothing! I didn't think it would be a bad idea until I did it!"

"What is it?"

"I invited my ex boss Elizabeth to my birthday and I haven't told Hayley." Morgan said quickly in one breath.

"Oh you are fucked."

"KADEN!"

"What?! You can ask Jason and he'll say the same! Like what the hell went through your head to do that? You have to tell her Morgan." Hayley might kill her... maybe she can wait until I get there, I want to see that.

"I will! I just... don't know how to. She knows I occasionally text Elizabeth to know how she is doing."

"And does she like that?"

"Not exactly, but she doesn't mind either we went over this already and solved it." Yeah I can imagine why Hayley wouldn't like Morgan talking to someone she used to fuck.

I wonder how they would react to me sleeping with Jessie... I can't think of it going well.

I don't have to tell anyone though, I don't think whatever it's going on will last. Jessie will eventually get bored and just go back to her husband like nothing ever happened.

"You can't never read the room can you Morgan?"

"What do I do!"

"Just tell her man, if she knows you text her then it's not going to be so bad. Besides it's your birthday."

"You don't know Hayley..." she mumbled and sighed. "Fine, I'll tell her once she gets home from work... if I don't text you in the next 24 hours then I'm dead."

"You are so dramatic."

"I'm not!"

"Maybe, I would kill you too can't blame her."

"Haha fuck off."

"Love you too, see you next week Morgan."  She didn't say anything back, just flipped me off and ended the call.

Well now I have to buy a plane ticket and tell my dad I'll take some days off work.

A very needed trip back home with my friends. Maybe I should ask Morgan if I can take Divya with me, she only knows her via FaceTime it would be a nice time for her and Jason to finally meet my roommate.

Days with no Jessie might do me some good.

I started the car and settled with going home instead, I wasn't in the mood to go back to work, I just want to go and sleep. I can always call Tom and let him know, but the fact that I've been gone for almost three hours now might give them a clue.

One thing is clear though... besides Morgan's possible death. I can't wait to go back home.
