You just left everything behind.

Tears welded in your eyes as you quickly hugged onto Charlie, a few sobs escaping you as he didn't know how to react at first. Though he hesitated, it didn't take long before he had wrapped his arms around you, trying his best to comfort you as everything began processing in your mind.

"It's okay.. You're okay. Listen to me, Y/N. We're safe." He began to reassure you softly, his hand carefully rubbing your back in small circles. "Just breathe. We'll sort this out.."

His words honestly soothed you more than you thought they would, your heavy sobs eventually turning into sniffles. He held you in silence for the longest time, not knowing what else he could say to make you feel better. When he felt your breathing begin to calm down, he finally gave a small sigh. "I might have a place for us to go. If we're lucky, we'll be accepted with open arms."

Though you worried about your family, you couldn't deny a place to stay would be nice. After all of the stress you had just been through, all you really wanted was a place to lay down and sleep for a while. "If we're lucky?"

"Well, let's just say I haven't spoken to these guys for a while.. not to mention they're pretty rough. They don't just let anyone waltz into their home." Charlie spoke with a sigh, his hands resting against your back. "They owe me and the guys a favor, though."

You were honestly a bit skeptical, not wanting to involve yourself with more criminals. Yet, at the same time.. you couldn't care less. "Alright.. let Basil rest for a few minutes, and then we'll be on our way."

Charlie just gave a nod, pulling away from you before sitting down against the structure of the bridge. You couldn't help but sit beside him, watching as Basil walked around, munching on a patch of grass that was out in the sprinkling rain.

"I can't believe I just did that." You spoke quietly, bringing your knees to your chest. "I shoved my father to the ground.. I ran away from home, my mother's probably worried sick.."

As you rambled on, Charlie placed a hand on your shoulder, looking at you with a reassuring gaze. "Everything will be alright.. when I find the guys again, we'll deliver you home safely and never bother your town again."

Hearing his words made you a bit skeptical, causing you to look at him with a raised eyebrow. "You mean that?"

"I won't promise anything." He said with a small laugh. "I'm sure we could make a deal with the others."

Shrugging slightly, you stared at the ground, attempting to process everything in your mind. While you were worried about what your parents were thinking right now, you also knew they just cared about your safety.

Yet at the same time, it pained you to think about never seeing Charlie again.

Though the two of you met on bad terms, you had grown to like him for who he really was. Behind all the crime and twisted personality, you saw a caring guy who wanted nothing more than to keep you safe.

After a few minutes had passed, Charlie slowly stood up, grunting as he balanced himself. "Right, I think we're good to go. If I remember correctly, their place should be too far away."

Once mounting Basil's sattle again, he offered you his hand, pulling you up to sit behind him. He took ahold of Basil's reigns, giving them a gentle tug, guiding her to move forward.

"So, who are these guys, anyway?" You couldn't help but ask, your curiosity getting the best of you. "Don't take this the wrong way, but are they.. y'know.. criminals, like you guys?"

Laughing softly, Charlie guided Basil back onto the main road, allowing her to trot slowly in order to reserve her energy. "If you want me to be honest, yeah. They're kind of a big deal, though I think they've been hiding out for a while. I'm pretty sure they're just trying to get off the radar of all nearby towns before striking again."

Nodding slowly, you carefully held onto him, taking in the scenery as the two of you traveled. The gentle rain hitting against the ground was a bit soothing, though it seemed to be picking up again.  Feeling the rain grow heavy once again, Charlie removed his jacket, holding it back for you to take. "Here. Don't want you getting hypothermia, or something like that."

"Put that back on. I'll be fine, like you said it's just a short trip anyway." You spoke softly, pushing the jacket back towards him. He seemed to completely ignore you, continuing to hold the jacket towards you until you finally gave in and took it. Not wanting him to get wet, though, you positioned the jacket over the two of you, shielding you both from the rain.

He seemed a bit confused, yet chuckled softly as he realized what you were doing. "I guess that works, too." He muttered, keeping his eye on the trail as Basil trotted along.

"Well, I wouldn't want you getting hypothermia, or something." You teased, holding the jacket in place as Basil continued walking.

"Oh, so you're mocking me now?" He asked with a raised brow, glancing back at you. "Y'know, I don't have to be so nice."

You gave a small hum, looking at him with a smile as he spoke. "You can't help it, both you and I know that for a fact."

The two of you seemed to laugh together as the trip continued, Charlie making turns left and right, seeming to follow the trail for a while. As the journey continued, though, the trail seemed to come to an end, yet Charlie continued through the woods with no clear signs of direction.

It was strange to see him take such an off-route path, yet you trusted his instincts. The two of you had gone far enough together, there was no sense in him turning on you now.

"Alright, we should be getting close. This is gonna sound weird, but let me know if you see a rock with an 'S' carved into it, okay?" Charlie spoke softly, glancing around the area to make sure you were going the right way.

Though it was an odd request, you gave a nod, keeping an eye out for said rock. It was something quite unusual to look for, yet as soon as you had your doubts, you seemed to find the carving besides the two of you. "Right over there." You spoke softly, pointing to the rock in order to get Charlie's attention.

Upon seeing the rock Charlie seemed to smile, guiding Basil towards it with ease. "Great, we'll be there in just a few minutes." He reassured you, guiding Basil past the rock, keeping her direction steady.

While you had your doubts in the back of your mind, you trusted that Charlie knew where he was going. If the path to this house were so specific- you figured he had been there quite a few times.

Almost as soon as you began to grow tired of the trip a house came into your view, which almost surprised you. It was the middle of nowhere within the woods, the thought of a house being this far out seemed to catch you off guard.

"Here we are." Charlie spoke with a hint of relief in his voice, halting Basil in front of a small stable that neighbored the house. Once he hopped off and tied Basil's reigns to a wooden post, he helped you down and slowly approached the front door.

You could help but stay behind him, almost afraid of who would answer the door. Yet Charlie knocked with confidence, a smile forming on his face as he awaited an answer.

There was a bit of frantic chatter behind the door, the curtain of one of the nearby windows seeming open slightly, before fully closing once again. Suddenly the noise of a lock turning could be heard and the door swung open, allowing a taller man to open the door.

That's when it hit you. A hidden house, multiple voices behind the door, and, as Charlie confirmed, a group of criminals, you finally realized who you were dealing with here. As you looked up at the man who had opened the door, his gaze pierced right through yours, sending a small shiver down your spine.

Charlie had brought you right to the door of the Sleepy Boys.
