As the three girls walked into Teddy's bedroom, Sawyer gasped in delight upon seeing the sleeping blue gray lump of fur on Teddy's bed. "Aw, so cute!" Sawyer exclaimed softly.
Much like Leah, it seems that Sawyer has a low cuteness tolerance before she starts getting excited about it, Teddy thought.
Dora started talking in Spanish and both Sawyer and Teddy cocked their heads to one side, struggling to understand most of what she was saying. She was gesturing around Teddy's room and from hearing the word "azul", which Teddy at least knew to mean blue, Teddy assumed she was talking about how blue Teddy's room is.
Teddy set down her backpack and tote bag, pulling out her phone and typing something into the AAC app as she walked away from Rain so as not to disturb his sleep too much with the sound. "What can I say? Blue's my favorite color. Even my backpack and tote bag are blue. Except in April. I have a backup backpack and tote bag for then."
Sawyer seemed a bit confused about the last part, but she didn't question anything.
"This is Rain," Teddy's AAC app explained, as Teddy gestured back at Rain in order to change the topic.
"Can I pet them?" Sawyer asked Teddy, already kneeling down beside the bed to look at Rain more closely.
"Sure, you can pet him," Teddy's AAC app replied. "Just do so gently."
Sawyer took one of her hands and slowly rubbed some of Rain's fur.
"Do you have any pets?" Teddy asked Sawyer and Dora through her AAC app.
Dora just shook her head, but Sawyer's face suddenly turned somber. "I used to have a dog, but she died of old age," Sawyer explained. "My family asked if I'd like a new one soon after, but I just don't know if I can go through that again."
Teddy frowned, typing an apology onto her AAC app, which it promptly voiced.
"It's okay," Sawyer said. "A-anyways, you said you were going to teach us more ASL?" Sawyer suddenly got up onto her feet changing her topic.
Teddy nodded, typing a response into her AAC app. "I was going to say we should sit on the bed but it looks like Rain has other plans."
"He's pretty small," Sawyer pointed out. "Two of us can probably sit here on either side of him, at least."
Teddy typed a reply into her AAC. "It might wake him, though."
"Oh, well, in that case, I'm fine with sitting on the floor," Sawyer suggested as she lowered herself onto the bedroom floor. Dora and Teddy both followed her lead, with Teddy sitting across from Dora and Sawyer.
As Teddy taught them more ASL words, continuing off from where they left off when they started their math homework, Rain started waking up and jumped off Teddy's bed. At first, the three girls didn't mind the cat too much, until the cat jumped onto Dora's backpack and her stuff spilled out of it.
Teddy stood up and signed a stern reprimand to her cat, who she had trained to understand ASL. She then turned and signed an apology to Dora, which was one of the words that she had taught Dora and Sawyer.
"Está bien," Dora replied as she moved over to her spilled stuff, including a rolled up piece of paper, a paper lunch bag (which was fortunately empty aside from a half empty water bottle that was closed tightly enough that it only rolled across the floor harmlessly), and her nearly finished math packet.
"Right," Sawyer gasped as she caught sight of Dora's math packet. "We haven't finished our math packets yet!" She quickly opened her own backpack and fished out her math folder and pencil case. She opened the math folder and took out the packet, flipping over to the page she had last worked on.
