Cancelling out several lies with worse lies

"That looks like a dictionary," Austin pointed to the thickest book.

Jasmine nodded. "That's because it is. I'm doing some research for a project, but mostly for my own enjoyment."

He frowned.

"Percy, did you find what you wanted to read?" She changed the subject, placing her books on the library counter for the librarian to check out.

Percy shook his head. "I can't read very well due to my dyslexia, so I couldn't really figure out whether the books I saw sounded good or not."

Jasmine shrugged. "I didn't know you had dyslexia. Well, I hope you find a good book someday."

She grabbed her books and we helped her back to the car.

"Your head feel okay?" I asked her when we got back in the car.

She nodded, wincing slightly. "What makes you ask that?"

"You're clutching your head," Nico noticed.

Jasmine bit her lip. "I just...saw something."

"What was it?" Percy and I asked at the same time.

"None of your business," Jasmine smiled cruelly.

We all groaned.

"So, what books did you get?" I changed the subject.

"Some greek mythology books," Jasmine responded.

"Uh, why?" Nico asked nervously.

"I'm really interested in it," Jasmine shrugged. "Always have been."

We went to the grocery store next, and Jasmine asked me to grab her wallet and list.

I gave her it as we walked inside.

"So what do we need?" I asked her.

She checked the list. "Ordinary things. Milk, bread, peanut butter, etc. My parents left some extra money, so we can also get some ice cream, I guess."

Percy smiled. "Blue ice cream?"

Jasmine smiled. "Sure. Blue everything is good."

"Finally," He sighed with relief. "Someone who agrees with me!"

Jasmine let out a laugh and started grabbing some things we needed at her house for meals. Percy and Nico ran off to the frozen food isle, most likely for ice cream, while Austin and I stayed near the bread and fruit.

"Will," Jasmine tapped my shoulder when it was us three left. "You'd tell me if anything was wrong, right?"

I nodded. "Of course."

She smiled slightly. "Okay, that's reassuring."

Austin frowned when Jasmine left us two alone. "What's going on between you two?"

"Uh, we're keeping secrets from each other," I told him nervously.

"But when you IM'd me, you talked about how close you guys were," Austin argued.

"Yeah, but that was before she got suspicious," I sighed. "We don't want her to know about us."

"Heard that," I heard Jasmine say from behind us.

I whipped around and faced her, seeing her fake smile.

"Wow," Jasmine said coldly. "I thought you were serious." Her smile faded to a menacing glare. "Of course you lied."

She turned around and kept shopping.

I sighed and ran my fingers through my hair.

"Why's she so rude?" Austin whispered to me.
