Eight Years Later

Chapter 2: I Promise It Wasn't What It Looked Like

The pounding of the door woke me up almost intantly. What really woke me up was when I jumped to the sound of the door and fell right of the side of bed. I layed there for a a few seconds in a piled mess with my comforter and sheets tangled around me.

"Need some help?" I would recognize that husky voice anywhere.

"Oh, yes Jakey." I said suggestively. Eight years ago, I never imaging me flirting, let alone talk to a guy, wait, I just down right never imagined myself with anybody, any friends. The past eight years have been the best eight years of my life. Jake has helped me come out of my shell and be the person I've always wanted to be. I could never thank him or repay him enough.

"Oh Em, what have I done to you?" he joked, pulling my covers off.

"I came in to wake you up early for school, you know the whole SENIOR THING!!!!! WE DID IT EM!" He smiled and wrapped me is a ginormous bear hug.

"Ya I guess, I wouldn't or rather couldn't have done it without you." I smiled back. With that I pulled away, but it wasn't awkward, it never was. He headed out of the room and back to his room while I opened the closet and looked through my clothes.

As I flipped through them I looked out the window. I had a perfect view here, I got to see the sun set every day. The waves rolling in over the sand, the children building sandcastles, throwing the colorful frisebbe all through the air. I couldn't have asked for a better home after the incident. I simply left my old house within a matter of an hour. I was able to pack all of my belongings into one box, a photo frame of the happy family we were before it happened, a stuffed dog named Buttercup from Jake and my clothes. I didn't have very many, only about eight outfits, the money for my clothes went elsewere. I only had onepair of converse, that I was wearing then. Jake immediately asked his parents if I could stay. That was seven years ago. I have lived with my best friend and his family for the past seven yeasr and they always call me the daughter they never had considering Jake was an only child.

I finally settled with a cute fitted coral color scoop neck shirt with a pair of dark wash jeans. Quickily changing into them I headed to the bathroom in my en-suite to plug in my curling wand. While it was heating up I brushed my teeth and put on a little make up. To be honest, I hated even doing this much. I applied some concealer and powder before finishing the look with some thin black eyeliner and mascara. Pleased, I got up and started curling my long blonde locks.

I looked in the mirror and saw a girl staring back at me. She didn't look like me, she was kind of pretty and had long hair curled to perfection. She was not skinny nor fat but had curves in all the right places. I dreamed of getting through highschool unnoticed eight years ago, now, well, I planned on living it to the fullest with my co-star Jake. I still wasn't popular and that was fine with me, like I would want to hang with the people that made my life hell. Pff, I'm not that naive nor stupid when they claim to be "Sorry for our past incidents" Seriously, come on, I thought she could have done better.

The only thing I could thank Maddie for, and it pains me to thank her but, getting Jake to follow me out of that cafeteria, to the park and making our promise.

I turned away from the mirror and grabbed my bag and ran down the hallway to the kitchen to find Jake sitting at the round cherry wood table with two bowls of Honey Nut Cherrios.

"Thanks Jakey, you're a life saver." I said stuffing my face, studying him. He was wearing a smug black v-neck so you could see his six pack beneath along with ripped jeans. With his hair swept naturally to the side he looked like a fucking model. Life is so unfair, he wasn't even trying! I mean girls, we have the clothes, the hair, the make up, we are the ones who get their periods, have to deal with bad PMS and-
