fun fact: this is kind of "from the vault" song, as i dug the initial lyrics/concept from a year and 4 months ago, played with it and finalized it to create a masterpiece. ✨ voila ✨

1ST VERSE:

i wonder if you play back the missed calls like i do

everytime i'm with you, it's always a crowded room

always conversing with everyone but me

their voices are so loud, i can't hear a thing

they overpower your chords

and i'd shout, but my thoats too sore

what's the point when you won't hear me out

the kind of blockage that breaks me down

you're the kind of damage cut to the core

but i won't let you pull my strings no more

PRE-CHORUS:

i wouldn't dare overshare

so don't bid the amount

cause nothing will ever compare

to all the times you swore you'd be there

yet no where nowhere to be found

i'm tired of redundant rebounds

tell me, why weren't you around?

CHORUS:

a pretty face and pretty lies

that's all i see in front of me

a pretty face and pretty lies

will you ever know better next time?

2ND VERSE:

i heard the words you spoke behind my back

oh yes, i've heard it all

i tried to impress you

but all you ever did was paint me sad

i've peered past the white wall

yet found myself hiding in the bathroom stall

only afraid of what i might say wrong

you wouldn't understand what i feel

when our romance is dead rather than real

it's a well proven fact i refuse to conceal

PRE-CHORUS:

i wouldn't dare overshare

so don't bid the amount

cause nothing will ever compare

to all the times you swore you'd be there

yet no where nowhere to be found

i'm tired of redundant rebounds

tell me, why weren't you around?

CHORUS:

a pretty face and pretty lies

that's all i see in front of me

a pretty face and pretty lies

will you ever know better next time?

BRIDGE:

trust me, i want to believe better of you

i want to believe you're capable of change

and somehow that'll reverse all your mistakes

but i'm not sure that's a risk i'm willing to take

you don't feel like home, never did

and sure, my ignorance is bliss ( isn't it? oh, i'm sure it is )

but while i stood around and waited, you were out wasted

there's no cure for broken love that could save it

CHORUS (x2):

a pretty face and pretty lies

that's all i see in front of me

a pretty face and pretty lies

will you ever know better next time?

i originally wrote this song last year in april and never published it because it was messy and didn't line up right just yet. i hadn't yet decided what was going to be a verse and which lyrics were staying. today, for the sake of my original story déjà vu, i decided to finally edit this song to fit properly nice in the standard pop song form.

this song isn't based on personal experience but rather a personal feeling? the lyrics are actually genius?? i can't believe that i wrote that.my fav line is " when our romance is dead rather than real, it's a well proven fact i refuse to conceal " and my fav part is the 1st verse. what is your fav line/ fav part of pretty lies?
