08. Warm Feelings

"How barbaric," Hanji giggled, completely ignoring the pain. "The new Captain shouldn't act like that to his subordinate~!"

"Shut up, four-eyes."

"That's right, congratulations for you too, Levi!" Aile smiled widely at the man. Levi replied her with a simple nod.

"So you're gonna act as this four-eyes' right hand, huh?" He raised a brow. "I seriously think you deserve the squad leader position more than this shit over here."

"Hey! That's too much insults!"

"I'm not suitable as a leader," Aile denied while raising both of her hands in front of her chest. "I'm more of a type who follow orders."

Levi crossed his arms. "Then why did you also reject to be placed in my squad?"

Aile flashed a thin smile. "There are still many people suitable for that position. As for me... I'm more suitable in doing field research and archiving."

"That's right!" Hanji ruffled Aile's head, making the latter curled her eyebrows. "And Aile is nearly as curious as me regarding titans! So it really suits her!"

"Hanji! Stop that!" Aile pulled Hanji's hand away from her head. "See, you're messing my hair..."

"It's gotten longer," Levi commented while eyeing the auburn strands.

"Yeah," Aile untied her hair, letting it loose. It reached her back now. "Do you think I should cut it?"

"No need to," Levi replied. "As long as you tied it up, you'll do just fine."

Hanji watched as the two conversed. A grin slowly formed on her face. "Hehe, you two are really in good terms, aren't you?"

The other two raised a brow at her. "Of course we are. We've known each other longer than we know you," Levi said.

"Ehem, actually I knew Hanji first before you," Aile corrected, while tying back her hair into her signature left-side ponytail.

Levi looked down in silent. "...It's been five years, huh."

"Yup, but you haven't gotten any taller, Levi." Hanji said teasingly, only to be replied with gloomy expressions. "Oh, I mean..."

"Me too. I have stopped growing since long," Aile cut in with small chuckle. "Hey, could titans be possibly overgrown humans?"

"That's not a bad theory!" Hanji flicked her fingers. "See, she's already showing dedication, Levi!"

"That's silly theory," Levi replied. "Silly theory from silly people."

The two girls grinned. Levi sounded rude, but Aile knew too well that he was teasing them. "You two should be glad, if that theory is true you two can't be titans!"

"Do you need more lens, four-eyes?" Levi scoffed. "And if we're titans you've long been eaten by us."

"Wait, I'm about to imagine how you look as a titan!" Aile chirped while looking up, imagining.

"Hahahah! He would be a two-meter class with short neck and big head!" Hanji bursted into laughter, followed by Aile. "And that hair! Hahaha!"

"Alright, that's enough." Levi glared at the two, only to make their laugh louder. "Waah, the shortie-titan's gonna get us! Run for your life, Aile!"

"Oh, my tummy..." Aile hold her abdomen, trying to stop her laugh.

"Oh, I nearly forgot," Hanji wiped up a tear from the corner of her eye. "I need to meet with my other new assistant. Bye, Aile! Bye, shortie-titan!"

And with that, Hanji left the two.

"Ow, my jaw and stomach hurt," Aile grinned widely. "But well, that was some good exercise."

"Thanks, Aile."

Aile turned to look at Levi, who was looking away. "...You shouldn't. I just mocked you along with Hanji, ya know." Aile let out a thin chuckle.

"I'm aware of that," Levi scoffed, glaring at her. "I nearly fell into that pit again..." He said as he dropped his glare.

Aile looked silently at him. Her lips slowly formed a smile. "It's a good thing you still have your sense of humour,"

"What does that mean?"

"Oh come on, the captain isn't that fool to comprehend it, is he?"

Levi slowly smirked. "Take care of yourself, dumbass," He said as he flicked Aile's forehead. "She's reckless. Be sure not to sink into the same shithole as her."

"I will drag her out, don't worry," Aile's face blushed a little. "Anyway, shouldn't you greet your new squad? The Special Operation Squad, wasn't it?"

Levi nodded. "I'm about to go now. If you want, you may tag along... You could teach some medical basic to them."

Aile smiled widely in return. "Sure!"
