"You don't say it's a slow day in the pit. You just jinxed us."

"It's a day, and it's slow."

"That phone starts ringing, you're gonna wish you hadn't said that."

"Not gonna ring. It's a slow day."

"Jane Doe, looks around eleven, in the back seat of her car when it got crushed by a semi. Second degree burns lining her face, torso and arm, and chest contusions."

The paramedics wheeled the girl inside, trying to ignore her screams and cries as they hauled her up onto a hospital bed.

"Okay uhh," Callie Torres nodded, grabbing her stethoscope from around her neck, "Page Robbins and Sloan, we'll put her in bay 5."

She watched as Alex Karev did as she asked, and began to listen to the girls heart rate, which was way above what it should be, "I'm Dr. Torres, i'm going to be looking after you, can you tell me your name?"

The girl sobbed, squirming and eyes blurred with both blood and tears, "M-Madeline."

"Hi Madeline," The doctor smiled then turned to the nurses, "Push 10mg of morphine."

But the girl had already passed out from the pain.

When she next woke up, she felt light, almost as if she was in a dream like state; No longer did she feel the searing pain through her skin and the shortness of breath, now it was calm.

Aside from the fact that she could feel something lightly pinching her arm, and that was irritating.

Slowly, her eyes began to open in gentle flutters, but once they did, she might as well not have opened them as everything in front of her was a blur.

"Madeline?"

Almost as if it was in the back of her mind, she heard a man's drowsy dim voice, like it was doused under water and she was on the surface.

"Madeline?"

There it was again, slightly louder. Her eyes were starting to clear up now, there was a bright, sterile light piercing into her stare, and it hurt.

She tried to move her arm to cover her eyes, but it seemed to be held down by something.

"Hey, don't do that kid, i'm trying to fix your arm here."
