07. Their Last Expedition, His New Resolve

Keith didn't respond. He only looked blankly at Aile, which made the woman gritted her teeth impatiently.

"Commander! Please give me the order to reinforce them!" Aile gave her salute to Keith. "I beg you!"

Keith observed the woman. She did the perfect salute and her face looked stern and solemn, albeit a hint of fear and anxiety were adorning her brown eyes. Keith took a deep breath and closed his eyes.

"...Fine. But you won't go alone," he eventually said. He glanced at Erwin and Mike. "Erwin, Mike, go along with her,"

"I order you three to reinforce Flagon's squad, with Erwin to act as the leader. Understand?"

Aile's face lit up as she let out a relieved sigh. "Thank you... I mean, yes sir!" Aile once again gave her salute along with Erwin and Mike. The three immediately spurred their horse back.

Erwin led them to the right flank. As they went, the three noticed the fog around them wasn't because of the rain, but it was fog that evaporated from titans remains.

"Squad leader, this fog..." Aile said wearily as she glanced around.

"Yeah. This is the steam of a falling titan..." Erwin said while eyeing his surroundings.

"But the steam is too much for just one... Who could be able to take titans down this many?" Mike added in wonder.

One and only thought immediately crossed in Aile's mind. "Levi..." She found herself uttered the name slowly. "Levi!!!" Aile abruptly spurred her horse onward, ignoring Erwin's and Mike's shouts behind her.

From afar, Aile could see a man figure was kneeling down. His face was facing against her, but she immediately identified the person.

"Levi!!"

The man, Levi, widened his eyes upon hearing the familiar voice. "...Aile?" He stood up before turning around, and found Aile was suddenly embracing him.

"Why are you here...?" "Levi! You're safe! Thank goodness!" Aile let go of her embrace and looked at Levi with relieved face. "Where's Farlan and..."

Aile caught a sight of a head near Levi's left foot, and immediately widened her eyes in shock. "Isa... bel...?" She stuttered as Levi lowered his gaze.

"Aile! Don't go on your own!" Mike's concerned voice could be heard from afar.

"Aile, are there any survivors there?" Erwin's shout made Levi flinched.

"Aile? ...Levi! Are you the only one who managed to get out alive?" Erwin's voice sounded louder since he was already with them. "These titans remains... were you--"

Levi suddenly moved swiftly from Aile and lunged Erwin down from his horse. The blond man fell to the muddy ground with a loud thud, making Mike pulled out his blade. Levi was faster though, as he already had his blade in his hand and pointed it to the man. "Back off." He said in terrifying tone.

"Levi! What are you--" "You too, Aile." The girl immediately froze in her position when Levi gave her his most deadly glare.

Levi turned his full attention at Erwin, who was groaning. "Erwin. I'm fucking gonna kill you. That is why I'm still here." Levi said while raising his blade to Erwin's neck.

Erwin quickly reverted back to his stern personality. "I see, your comrades must have died..." He said without averting his gaze from Levi. He then slowly reached inside his vest, and took out a file folder.

"These are the documents concerning Nicholas Lobov," he said as he showed the folder to Levi.

Levi gritted his teeth. "You bastard... You know?"
