Skylar went downstairs to the living room with the clothes bag, it was canvas with buckles that she closed tightly, Nathan walked in and let out a low whistle "you look great," He complimented. And sat on the opposite couch with a laptop, she moved over to see "got any games?" she asked,"no" he said curtly "what about movies? Or funny videos?"

"Skylar, cut it out! " He sounded irritated so she stopped, but looked, all the same. He sighed " are you always like this? "He asked exasperated. When he asked that, she was hit by a pang of sadness, she remembered teasing Christopher with Arielle and scaring the bratty kids next door..... "Skylar! Snap out of it!" Skylar looked up at Nathan who was scowling angrily, "I just told you to get up! We're leaving!" Teresa and Matty came in arm in arm "yo! We going or what?!" He said. "going? Going where? I'm staying here! I'm not leaving my family alone! If I'm going anywhere it's home or the pier! And definitely not with you!" Skylar burst out angrily. Everyone in the room was taken back by her outburst. Matty snapped out of it and strode to her "we're going, even if it kills you!" He growled "anyways" He said cooly "if the job doesn't kill you" He drew a gun out "I will" He finished simply. "if you're going to kill me, then go right ahead!" Skylar said simply "Matty looked shocked, then his expression changed to anger, "just pull the trigger, already! DO IT" she cried out, he walked over to her, raised his hand and slapped her across the face
Matty's POV
How dare she? I don't care if she's a girl or not, nobody talks to Matty Rae that way! I slapped her, hard. Nathan flinched and Teresa took a step towards Skylar, "c'mon guys! Let's go!" I said, Skylar was on the floor. My blow had knocked her down. And there was blood seeping down her neck from her face. I pretended not to care. But I do. We (including Skylar, who silently let Nathan drag her) went to the car________________________
Nathan's POV
I put her in the back seat, she didn't even squirm. When I closed the door, I felt something wet and warm on my hand, blood. I looked through the window and saw that her cheek has a big wound on the side of her face,where Matty slapped her, I know we still have a while before we leave, I went to the front seat and rummaged around until I found a first aid kit and went to her and opened the door, I opened the kit and reached out to her, she scrambled away. "hey Sky, I won't hurt you, I just want to help". Reluctantly she nodded. I took out some spirit and dabbed it gently, she winced in pain but let me put cotton over it and a gauze, she was looking at me in surprise. Like she didn't know I a

kindness. I took a handful of pills and a bottle of water. "here, have these. It'll numb the pain and knock you out for a few hours" she obediently had them. She took my hand in her's. "thank you" she whispered and fell asleep
