Danisha breathed heavily as she followed after her mother who was dragging her through the house. She could hear gunshots behind them and it got relatively low as they entered her parent's room.

She could feel her heart beat a little louder as her mum closed the door and immediately began rummaging through the room putting things into a duffle bag.  She had never been in her parent's room in her sixteen years of life but she did not have time to admire it as she was eager to join the chaos down the stairs.

"Mama why are we here though,  Daddy's down there fighting we gotta' go help him" She queried scrunching her face up as her mother thrust the bag into her hands pushing her to the window.

"I'll go help him,  you need to get the fuck out of here right now" Her mom said still dragging her towards the window. Hearing that Danisha paused abruptly making Sheerise look back confused at her daughter.

"Fuck you mean by that,  why can't I go back ma', I can shoot y'all been training me for years but now you want ta' send me away" Danisha said feeling herself heating up,  her parents had spent years putting her through drills and teaching her to shoot and fight just to send her away at the first sight of action.

"And now I want to use your training to save yourself" Sheerise said putting her hands up to stop her from interrupting
"Your dad and I spent time training you to protect yourself and not fight with us,  we always knew it would come to this and we don't want to worry about you, run away and start over"

"But ma-"

"Girl you better get ya' yellow ass out the window,  ya' daddy down there and we ain't got time fa' you to do all this" Her mum fumed with her face in a mug.

Danisha huffed trying to control her rage,  it was crazy that her mum was sending her away at a time like this.  She considered her options deciding to obey-if she was going to help she would rather help from the outside-she adjusted the straps of the bag on her shoulder and climbed out the window stopping when she felt an arm holding her back.

Turning to her mum she was shocked to see tears in her eyes as she pulled her into a hug,  her mum wasn't exactly emotional or affectionate.

"I love you Dee,  I want you to be free and live your life far away from this bullshit.  Your dad and I are very proud of the woman you are turning out to be"

Danisha felt her eyes begin to tear up as she hugged her mum pulling her closer and mumbling a quiet 'I love you too'.  Sheerise pulled back grabbed two guns and gestured Danisha towards the window.
