"What do you mean?" I asked as Colby shook his head. "He's missing and I have to go." He said then turned to go towards the closet.

"You can't go, Colby." I said with a shaky tone. He didn't say anything as he walked into the closet.

"Colby!" I cried out, following him. "What do you want me to say, Julia?" He asked and turned around, facing me.

"That you aren't going to be this stupid and you aren't going to leave me again....you promised." I said as my eyes watered.

"I know...it's just...he's my best friend, Jules. Something is wrong and I can't sit here and pretend like its not happening." He said as my heart sank.

"You promised." I whispered as his eyes watered.

I watched as he came over and took my face in his hands. "I know I did and I'm so sorry for this. I hope you can forgive me, Jules." He said then kissed my forehead.

"You can't do this..." I whispered as he closed his eyes. "I'll only be gone for a couple of days...a week at most." He said as I shook my head. "I don't believe you." I said as his face sunk.

My heart was shattered, knowing that the trust was going to be destroyed between us.

I understood why he was wanting to go. Sam was his best friend and they were platonic soulmates, but I couldn't help but feel like this was a trap.

Sam was too smart to go missing.

"You can't.." I said quietly as he closed his eyes. "Jules, please don't do this...I am just begging you to understand this one time." Colby begged.

"I do understand, Colby. I understand he's your best friend and that you love him, but you're not a part of the gang anymore. You don't have to do this." I said as he sighed.

"I know. That's why I'm going to go for a couple days and try to scope out the situation. I'll call you from a burner phone every day. I just can't sit here knowing there's something I could be doing to help." Colby said quietly.

I frowned, looking into his eyes. I wanted desperately to fight with him and beg him to stay with me but I understood.

He was going to do it because he's been waiting for an opportunity to get back into it.

"What do I tell the kids?" I asked quietly, my voice cracking with emotion.

"Don't worry about that, sweetheart. I'll take care of everything." He said then kissed me quickly before turning to start packing.

I felt like my heart was going to explode with how much fear and sadness was settling in. Colby and I were truly getting into the swing of things and this was going to set us back completely.

I started to cry, putting my hand over my mouth to muffle the noise. I had a sick feeling in my stomach that no matter what happened, I would never see Colby again.

Colby turned around to see me breaking down, causing him to put his bag down and pull me into his chest.

"Shhhh...you're okay. Everything is going to be okay." Colby said quietly, holding me tightly. "I-it's a trap." I sobbed out.

"Shhhh...it has nothing to do with me. I'm going to go and find Sam then come back here." He said as I shook my head.

"Do you hear how stupid you sound?" I asked as he chuckled. "Usually not." He said then pulled away and wiped my cheeks.

"It's gonna be okay. I did this sort of thing for years. I know my way around the danger." He explained as I nodded.

"It doesn't make it any less scary. Plus, you're rusty." I mumbled causing him to laugh. "Yeah, a little bit. I'll be okay. I promise, Jules." He said then took a step back.
