A Reality Check

Lizzie is talking to Scarlett as they eat while Y/N continues to hum to himself while eating as he leans against Lizzie. 

"Lizzie."

"Yes sweetie?"

"Can I get a haircut?"

"I'll have to ask your dad if it's okay but I'm sure he'll be fine with it."

He looks up at her.

"I miss my dad."

"I bet he misses you too."

"Can we call him?"

"Of course."

Lizzie takes her phone out, dialling Boyd's number and handing the phone to Y/N.

"Hey, how's Y/N?"

"Dad."

"Oh hey kiddo, how you doing? You being good for Lizzie?"

"I'm being good. I miss you so much."

"I miss you so much too kiddo. I'll be home in six days though buddy, then we can have a sleepover with Jenna."

"I'd like that."

Lizzie wraps her arm around Y/N rubbing his arm as he tears up.

"Can Lizzie bring me to get my hair cut?"

"Of course buddy. Can you put her on?"

"Okay. I love you dad."

"I love you too Y/N."

Y/N hands Lizzie the phone before going back to eating. 

"Hey Boyd."

"Hey, how's he doing?"

"He's good, very energetic."

Boyd laughs making her smile.

"He woke you up I'm guessing?"

"Yeah with a knee to the stomach and my eyelid pulled open."

"Yeah. You learn to listen out and move away from where his knees land."

"I hope I'm a fast learner then."

They both laugh.

"He's really missing you Boyd."

"I'm missing him too. Two days is the longest we've been apart and since I haven't seen him since yesterday..."

"It's like two days to him."

"Yeah. But you could help make him feel better."

"How?"

She looks at him as he wipes his tears.

"Do you still like to garden?"

"Yeah why?"

"Do you have a pond or firepit?"

"Yeah both why?"

"Get him to help you garden, he thinks it helps Pokémon that way, same with the pond and firepit. Three main Pokémon types."

"You're a good dad."

"I know, I put the work in."

"Look Boyd-"

"Don't Lizzie. Don't make promises you can't keep and don't apologise. He's been through a lot,  he doesn't need you walking out on him again."

"I don't plan on it."

"Good then prove it."

Boyd hangs up making her sigh. Scarlett looks at her with a raised eyebrow, she mouths I'll tell you later.

"So you wanna get that haircut now?"

"Yes please."

They all get up, the two women paying before heading their separate ways.

"I'll see you two on set tomorrow?"

"Obviously."

Y/N hugs Scarlett tightly which she returns before hugging Lizzie.

"I'll be over tonight," she whispers.

"Come on mister, let's get that hair cut."

Lizzie and Y/N head to the barbers getting Y/N's haircut (picture above). He smiles happily running to Lizzie.

"Thank you."

"You're welcome baby."

She ruffles his hair before paying. She holds his hand as they walk to the car.

"Can I get a shower when we get home?"

"You had one this morning?"

"I have hair down my back and it's making me itchy."

"Well then of course you can baby."

"Thanks Lizzie."

"You're welcome baby."

The two of them get into the car and head back to Lizzie's house. Y/N gets a shower before putting on clean clothes and running downstairs to Lizzie.

"I need your help with something outside."

He groans laying on the couch.

"You don't have to but the Pokémon need it."

He quickly stands up holding her hand making her chuckle as they walk outside. She gets him to help her gardening before feeding the water Pokémon that may be in the pond. She then gets him to help clean the firepit for the fire Pokémon.

"The Pokémon are gonna be so happy we helped them."

She stands beside him as they wash their hands.

"Yeah they are. I wouldn't have been able to do it without my helper."

He smiles up at her. 

"Come on let's get you to bed."

He runs off up ahead of her, changing into his pjs and getting into the bed just as she walks in. 

"Wow someone's fast."

"Like Sonic the hedgehog?"

"He ain't got nothing on how fast you are."

The both laugh as she sits beside him kissing his head. 

"Goodnight Y/N."

"Goodnight Lizzie."

She smiles heading towards the door.

"Lizzie."

She turns around to look at him.

"Yeah baby?"

"I'm happy I met you."

"I'm happy I met you too Y/N."

Just as she goes to walk out, Y/N says something that stops Lizzie in her tracks.

"I wish you were my mom. You wouldn't leave me like she did."

She smiles softly at him turning off the light and heading downstairs. She takes a deep breath, some tears falling. 

"God I fucked up."

She runs her fingers through her hair, making a decision that she would make it up to both Boyd and Y/N for leaving so she can be the mother Y/N thinks she could be for him.
