CHAPTER ONE: First glance

"De Vega Valeen?"

"Present." Sabi ko sabay tago nung papel na inabot sakin ni Jessica. Last class ko na to for today. Nung wala na sakin yung attention ng prof namin, kinuha tapos binuklat ko na yung papel. 

Urban tayo tonight. 10pm. 

I scribbled a reply on the paper bago ko pinasa pabalik kay Jessica. 

Can't. May plans kami ni Keith. Sorry Jes :*

Keith again. Yet you're swearing up and down that you guys aren't together?

Jeez. Here we go again. No Jes. Keith is not my boyfriend. He never will.  Then I glared at her to emphasize my point. Binelatan lang ako ng bruha. I turned my attention back to my prof. 

After our history class, nagmadali kami ni Jes na pumunta sa gym. May basketball tryout kasi dun at gustong mag-guy hunting ni Jes. Pagdating namin, almost every seat is taken. Buti nalang kinawayan kami ni Ysa at Shannel.

"Goodness. Ang tagal nyong dalawa!" Sabi ni Ysa paglapit namin. Umupo na kami ni Jes sa tabi ni Shannel.

"Chill Ysa. We're just 10 minutes late sa usapan okay? Nag extend kasi si Sir Corpuz." paliwanag ni Jes.

"Don't mind Ysa. You know her naman. Ever punctual. Hahaha" sabi ni Shannel kay Jes.

"Whatever" sabay irap ni Ysa samin. 

"Anyways, ano Urban tayo later? Game kayo girls?" tanong ni Shannel samin.

"Yeahbsolutelyy game ako." ngiting ngiting sabi ni Jes. Sya kasi pinakahyper samin. Lalo na sa mga gimik.

"Pass. May lakad kami ni Keith."

"Duh. Edi isama mo nalang si Keith. Change of plans na lang kayo. C'mon V, it's our night out." sabay pout ni Ysa sakin.

I sighed. "Firstly Ysa, it's Thursday. Tomorrow pa ang night out natin. Secondly, nauna si Keith na magplano. Biglaan lang yang sainyo. Thirdly,----"

Naputol yung sasabihin ko dahil sa tilian ng mga girls sa gym. Start na ng tryout at lumabas na yung mga players. Syempre, pinaka malakas yung mga cheers kay Keith. I can't blame them. He's impossibly gorgeous. Matalino din though di naman yung genius-type. But the main factor behind the popularity is because he's the captain of the basketball team. Ahead sya samin ng one year. Third year na sya. Civil Engineering yung course. 

"Omygod ang hot hot talaga ni Keith. Goodness" sabi nung random girl sa likod namin.

"I LOVE YOU LARRIOSSSSS!" Sigaw nung isa pang girl sa likod. Tapos tilian sila ng tilian. Jeez. Get a grip guys. Kairita tong mga to -___-

Napasulyap si Keith dun sa sumigaw pero sakin pa rin bumagsak yung mata nya. He smiled his 500 megawatt smile then waved at me. Nginitian ko lang din sya. I can feel the stares of the girls behind me. One of them whispered  " Who is she?" to the other na parang di rin whisper dahil narinig ko.

"Valeen De Vega. Sya lang yung girl na constant and special kay Keith. Yung iba, flings lang. Narinig ko nga engaged na sila eh." 

ENGAGED? Talk about ridiculous. Grabe talaga mga chismis sa school na to. Jessica caught my eye then she leaned close to me tapos binulong sakin "So, why didn't you tell me na engage na kayo?" sabay tawa ng malakas. Napailing na lang ako. Parati akong inaasar nila Jes tungkol kay Keith pero alam naman nila na hindi talaga kami. The reason kung bakit? Yun ang hindi nila alam. At wala akong balak ipaalam. 

"Ssshhh guys look" tinuro ni Shannel yung isa sa mga magtatry-out. Bukod kay Keith, sya yung tinitilian ng karamihan. 

Napatigil si Jes sa pangaasar sakin tapos tumingin dun sa guy. "Hmm pwede" Tumayo sya sa upuan niya tapos sumigaw ng "GO NUMBER 4!!" Pagkaupo ni Jes, Nagkatawanan kaming apat. Lumingon ulit ako sa mga magtatryout. Nakatitig sakin yung number 4. Hala baka akala niya ako yung sumigaw ah? Namula ko dahil sa naisip ko then ... he winked at me. O__o Ugh flirt alert.

After tryout, practice game naman ng team. Nagenjoy kami sa kasisigaw. Lalo na si Jes. Hyper forever. 

Pagkatapos ng lahat lahat, lumapit na kami sa team. Kinakausap ni Keith yung mga nagtryout. "Bukas ipopost namin sa bulletin kung sino mga nakapasok. Goodluck" Isa isa nyang inapiran yung mga guys tapos saka siya humarap sakin.

"Hey there pretty. Hi Jes. Ysa and Shan" tapos umakbay sya sakin.

"Hi Keith. Listen, we're gonna go clubbing tonight. Urban. Kaso may plans daw kayo ni V. Could you guys go with us nalang?" At ayan nanaman ang fake pout ni Ysa.

"Hmm let me think... Yeah sure." then he smiled at Ysa.

"Yey!" Tumalon talon si Ysa habang nagapir naman si Jes at Shannel.

"Tss. Di mo dapat ini-spoil yang mga yan. Okay lang ba talaga?" tanong ko kay Keith.

"Yes. No biggie. And besides, mas maganda ng magclubbing ka na kasama mo ko kesa kayo kayo lang." 

"Protective much?" Sabay tawa ni Jes samin.

"Sige see you guys nalang. 10 huh. Don't be late. Bye" Nakipagbeso sakin si Ysa sabay hatak kay Jes na tinatawanan pa rin kami. Sumunod na sa kanila si Shannel pagkatapos ako ikiss sa pisngi.

"Issue pa rin ba tayo?" Natatawang tanong ni Keith sakin.

"Yeah, sa iba. But those three, they know nothing is going on between us though they don't know why since alam nilang close na tayo dati pa." 

Nagkatinginan kami ni Keith.

"Do you want to tell them the reason?" He asked me quietly.

Kinuha ko yung bag nya sa upuan tapos binigay ko sakanya bago sumagot. "I don't think they need to know. In the future siguro but right now, let everyone speculate. It doesn't really bother me." I gave him a reassuring smile.

"Thanks V" sabi niya at inakbayan ulit ako.

Habang palabas kami ng gym, nakasalubong namin yung nagtryout kanina na number 4. 

"Kyle" sabi ni Keith. He nodded ploitely to Keith then gave me a wicked smile.

"Hi Valeen" 

Tumaas kilay ko. I didn't expect him to know me.

"Hey four. You know me?" I asked.

"Doesn't everyone?" then he laughed. "Sige see you guys around" He gave me another wicked smile bago tumakbo pabalik ng gym.

"Parang ngayon ko lang nakita yung lalaking yun."

"Who? Kyle? Transferee eh. Civil Eng din sya. Classmate ko."

"Ah okay. Hahatid mo ba ko?"

"Yep. Tapos sunduin kita para sabay tayo pumuntang Urban."

"9:30."

"Okay."
