The Animal Pedigree Act of Canada is an Act that aims to support breed improvement and to protect people who raise and purchase animals. It carries out these goals by helping to create animal pedigree associations that register and identify animals. The purpose of this Act is to promote breed improvement, and to protect people who raise and purchase animals by providing for the establishment of animal pedigree associations that are authorised to register and identify animals that, in the opinion of the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, have significant value.
Breed Standards are the essential trademark characteristics of a breed such as colour and coat pattern, horns, size, conformation, etc. Additional breed standards may include performance characteristics such as growth rate or milk production.
