The average lifespan of a horse is different for every breed and the age of full maturity is different for every breed. Example:
Ageing Process in a Horse~
Foal- A foal is a newborn horse. A foal is called a Filly if it is a female and a Colt if it is a male. Foals should be weaned by 5 months of age, after which they are referred to as Weanlings.
Yearling- a yearling is a young horse between 12 and 24 months of age. A yearling is not fully physically mature and is in early stages of sexual maturity.
Adult- A mature intact male horse is called a Stallion. A mature male that has been castrated is called a Gelding. A mature female horse is called a Mare.
Horses are mammals and give birth to live offspring. Horses can start to mature, or reach Puberty, between 12 and 18 months of age. However, most breeds are considered adults at four or five years old. Early breeding can affect the growth of both mares and stallions. Even though young horses can reproduce, it is not advisable to have them do so. A filly and colt may be capable of reproducing and reach puberty as early as 12 months of age, but the age of sexual maturity is different for every breed.
