Chapter 3

Jeremy and Brer Fox were cleaning the fireplace in Chick-a-Pin Hill when Brer Bear ran over holding a gold coin.

"Brer Fox! Brer Jeremy! Check out diss coin I found" he said.

"Where'd ya find it?" said Brer Fox.

"Under de tree by de fishin' spot. Where I nap" said Brer Bear.

"But why weren't you fishing if you were at the fishing spot?" said Jeremy.

"It haz a sign dat sez 'No Fishin'." Who needs dat?" said Brer Bear.

Brer Fox inspected the coin closer.

"Diss ting looks older den Uncle Remus. Check it out, Brer Jeremy" said Brer Fox.

Jeremy took the coin and had a look himself.

"Goodness. This looks like an authentic viking coin" he said.

"Ya think it'll buy somethin' in de gif' shop?" said Brer Bear.

"No! This could be priceless. Many historians believe that the first people to land here in Florida were vikings" said Jeremy.

"Ya know, I remembers readin' a legen' dat dare wuz trezhuh buried somewhe'e in Splash Mountain" said Brer Fox.

"Treasure?!" Brer Bear and Jeremy said in unison.

"We must find it! But first, we must do what all great treasure hunters do" said Jeremy.

"Buy a letter jacket an' get a grumpy sidekick?" said Brer Bear.

"Oh, don't be ridiculous. I was talking about research" said Jeremy.

"So I guesses all I needs now is de jacket" said Brer Bear with annoyance. 

In the Briar Patch, Patty was making Chad look good for his date.

"Voila! My masterpiece!" she said.

Chad looked at himself in the mirror. His face shone and his blonde hair was styled neatly with the bangs slightly raised.

"Thank you, Patty" said Chad politely.

"Check you out, Brer Chad! You look like my ears when day's freshly combed" said Brer Rabbit.

"I told you you made his hair too fluffy, Patty" said Burt.

Just then, they received a knock on the door. 

"That's Marlyn. Brer Rabbit, get the door. Burty, take Chad to the bathroom" said Patty.

"Why can't I get the door?" said Chad.

"Because one should always wait for their date" said Burt leading him into the bathroom.
