Chapter 10: Eternal Sunshine

Y/N had returned to the police force as a detective, having been given a second chance after her involvement in the trafficking ring bust. With the children now safe and sound, she had served her time and was determined to make a difference in the world.

San had also moved up in the ranks and was now a senior detective. Despite the years that had passed, the two had remained close friends and colleagues, working on numerous cases together.

One day, while they were working on a case, Y/N received a message from colleague Yunho. "Hey, Y/N, I heard you're single now," he said in a teasing tone. "So, how about we go out sometime?"

San, who was standing nearby, overheard the conversation and immediately spoke up. "No way, Y/N is mine!" he exclaimed, surprised at his own outburst.

Unfortunately for San, the microphone in the office had been left on, and his declaration was heard by everyone in the room, including Y/N.

The other detectives in the room burst out laughing at San's confession, and Y/N couldn't help but feel a little flattered. "Well, I guess the cat's out of the bag now," she said with a grin.

San, embarrassed by his outburst, tried to play it cool. "I mean, I didn't mean it like that... I just meant that we work well together," he stammered.

Yunho, who had been silent throughout the exchange, couldn't help but chuckle. "Looks like I've got some competition," he said with a wink.

Y/N laughed, shaking her head. "Sorry, Yunho, but I'm taken," she said, giving San a playful nudge.

The two continued to banter back and forth, much to the amusement of their colleagues, until finally, the office returned to its usual state of quiet productivity.

Y/N and San left the office together, still laughing and joking about the earlier exchange. It was moments like these that reminded Y/N why she loved her job so much, and why she was grateful to have such a wonderful friend and partner in San.

As they stepped outside, the sun was setting, casting a warm orange glow over the city. Y/N couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment as she walked next to San. They had been through so much together, and yet they were still here, walking side by side.

"Hey, Y/N," San said, breaking the comfortable silence between them. "There's something I've been wanting to tell you."

Y/N turned to him, curious. "What is it?"

San took a deep breath, his eyes meeting hers. "I know we've been partners for a long time now, but... I want to be more than that."

Y/N's heart skipped a beat. Was San saying what she thought he was saying? "What do you mean?"

"I mean... I want to be with you, Y/N. I want to date you," San said, his eyes intense.

Y/N felt her cheeks heat up. She had always had feelings for San, but she never thought he felt the same way. "San... I don't know what to say."

San took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. "Say yes. Please."

Y/N looked up at him, seeing the sincerity in his eyes. And in that moment, she knew that she wanted to be with him too. "Yes, San. I would love to date you."

San's face lit up with a smile, and before Y/N knew it, he had pulled her into a warm embrace. She could feel his heartbeat against her chest, and she knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be and without hesitation, Y/N leaned in and kissed San, her heart pounding with joy and relief. San wrapped his arms around her, deepening the kiss as they both finally gave in to their feelings.

As they pulled away, they both knew that they were taking a risk. But it was a risk worth taking, for the chance to be together.

"I love you, Y/N," San said, his eyes shining with emotion.

"I love you too, San," Y/N replied, feeling a sense of happiness and contentment wash over her.

And as they walked off into the sunset, hand in hand and with their hearts full of love, Y/N knew that no matter what obstacles they may face in the future, they would always have each other.
