Chapter Forty-Four

~Nobody's POV~

Angelique tries to pay as much attention as possible to her surroundings, but not only is Loki pulling her through the underground dungeon with an untamed force, but she is also trying to concentrate on not passing out from the dagger wound in her shoulder, which is still gushing blood.

"Loki," she grits her teeth, trying to pull back, but he is relentless, "Loki, listen, you're not-"

"Not another word, or I'll slit your throat, and your blood will drip on my blade."

Angelique closes her mouth, and squeezes her eyes shut, and bites her lip to stop a cry of pain as Loki throws her in a cell.

Staggering to her feet, Angelique scarcely has time to stagger to her feet before Loki pulls her up by the arm- her wounded arm, and Angelique can't keep in a choked sob. She looks around quickly, and feels her heart plummet. The cell has chains against the wall, and silver instruments on the single bunk, but what stops her heart the most is the dried-up flow of blood on the cold ground, and on the wall.

Loki slams Angelique into the stone, and she sees stars, feeling blood on her forehead. Before she can move, he chains her to the wall, tightening the manacles so that they'll fit over her small wrists. Angelique notices that the circumference around her wrist, where blood is stained, is much larger- the last person to have been held here was taller than her, and bigger.

At that moment, as Loki walks over to the tray of silver blades, she gets a good look at him. Immediately, she realizes why Videl had said that Thea looks so much like him. They have the same thick hair, that flies everywhere, and the same thin lips and high, prominent cheekbones. Loki is much taller than Thea, but like her, his muscles are hidden in a lean figure, and his skin is as pale as hers. What Angelique notices most, however, are Loki's eyes. They are the precise shape as Thea's, but a sickening silver, glazed and unseeing. He is staggering too, as if either seasick or partially inebriated.

Angelique notices something else. He looks terrible. His skin, although pale like Thea's, is distinctly sallow and hollow, like the skin has been pulled tight over his bones. His hair is matted and greasy and over-long. There is a nasty looking, jagged cut down his left cheekbone, inflamed, and when Loki turns around completely, with his shirt partially torn down the center, Angelique's eyes widen as she sees the slices up and down the top of his torso, still beet-red.

At that moment, she realizes that the last person who had been held in this cell was Loki.

"Loki," whispers Angelique, "Loki, please, listen to-"

She gasps as Loki slaps her, so hard that she feels a shooting pain not only on her cheek, but from her neck as well.

"I said," his voice is hard and awful, especially because it's trembling and raspy, "To be silent."

Angelique clenches her jaw, feeling blood on her lip. She tries to stop her hands from shaking.

Loki holds up a needle-sharp instrument in front of her eyes. "I will give you an option. The first option is that you cooperate, and answer my questions. The second option," He reaches forward and touches her cheek with the cool silver. Angelique bites her bleeding lip as the tip of the blade presses against her as Loki says, "This is the second option, and I assure you, you will not like it."
