05. The Wings of Reunion

"Never in a million years," Levi cut in. "I only intend to get closer to that blondie bastard..." His expression darkened.

"And I will kill him as soon as I get the chance." Levi firmly stated.

Both Farlan and Isabel looked at Levi in shock. "Oi, Levi... You remember my plan, right?" Farlan inquired, worries were all over his face. "Why are you so eager to kill him anyway?"

Levi looked at Farlan straight in the eyes. "Taking care of him is part of the plan, if I'm not wrong," he answered. "...and after all he did, he only deserves death."

Farlan looked back at him, a sweat rolled down his cheek. "...Don't tell me," Farlan seemed to realise something. "It's not because of Aile, is it?"

Levi stayed silent in his position when Farlan narrowed his eyes at him. "Well? Answer me, Levi!" Farlan's voice grew firmer.

Levi just glared back at Farlan, not even hinting a sign to answer. "You three, get over here." The guy suddenly called them.

Levi turned around and left the two without saying anything. "Levi...!" Farlan frustratingly called, only to be ignored by him.

-Flashback-

"So, how do you read these?"

"Oh, umm! 'The sky is blue, and the clouds are white'! I'm right, aren't I?"

Aile nodded satisfyingly to Isabel. "Very good! Isabel, you're a quick learner. Unlike the person who actually requested this."

"Shaddup," Farlan narrowed his eyes while spinning a granite stick in his hand. "I only requested you to teach Isabel, so why am I here and Levi there?"

Levi glanced at Farlan from his paper. A doodle filled the entire white sheet. "I'm not so different from your position, Farlan."

Aile chuckled. "Stop complaining. See, Isabel's doing the best among you three,"

Isabel stuck out her tongue at Farlan. Then she grinned widely at Levi. "Hee-hee! Looks like I beat you, aniki!"

Farlan sighed heavily. "I give up. Drawing isn't my thing," he said as he leaned backwards. "And there's no way we can draw as good as you."

Aile chuckled lightly. "C'mon, I only draw what I see, nothing special. And y'know, no one ever taught me these stuff. Since back in my place learning is considered a taboo."

"Then where did you pick these skills?" Isabel tilted her head to the side. "You know, writing, reading, and drawing well?"

Aile glanced at her. She couldn't resist the urge to smile. "Self-taught for drawing. Then someone taught me how to read and write." Aile's face slowly darkened. "While my folks... they only gave me unpleasant memories."

"How crazy your place was?" Levi commented as he drew another shape on the backside of the paper. "That you chose to move here... If I were you, I'd prefer that place."

"Not to pry, but I also kinda curious," Farlan added with one brow arched. Isabel also gave Aile inquiring look, making Aile sighed.

"Well... It's complicated," Aile uttered slowly as she peeked at Levi's paper. "Levi, what's that? I can't make a head or tail of it."

"Don't change the topic, you dumbass."

Aile sighed while crossing her arms. "At least you two do better in writing..." she murmured slowly. Then, she sighed.

"Well... I came from a place where all the people lived in sole purpose of hunting. And I, uh... doesn't really have what it takes to be a 'proper' hunter. I couldn't bring myself to hurt our supposed to be prey, and that was pissing my pops off." "I agree with you with that one!" Isabel raised her hand.

Aile sighed heavily. "Unfortunately my father didn't. He wanted more from me. Because there, he was respected as the strongest hunter. How can the daughter of the most skilful hunter failed as a hunter?" "I swear if I hear another 'hunter' from you I'm gonna force this stick down your throat," Levi threatened Aile with pretended glare.

Aile grinned nervously. "Spare me, Levi. Then I won't pricked on your drawing for two days forward."

Levi crossed his arms. "Fine. Continue."

Aile played with her hair strands. "Where was I? Oh right... My father demanded more from me. He kept pushing me around, forcing me to do things I don't want. Day after day, his obsession got worsened that I couldn't take it anymore." Aile stopped, her gaze was on her joined fingers.

"...Not just him, everyone was just too obsessed in hunting. So when I busied myself with drawing and exploring, they started to ignore me. I was fine with it, since I had always been ignored them. But whenever I was around, I noticed that everyone looked disgracefully at me..." Aile narrowed her eyes.

"Then I realized that nobody wanted me there anymore. Even my father... It was like I wasn't even existed." Aile closed her eyes, remembering the unpleasant memory. "What's the point of living there, then?"

The trio dropped their head as Aile opened her eyes.

"That was why I decided to get away from that hell. Then I stumbled upon this place, and met you guys,"

"...Guess you're unfortunate," Levi tapped the stick in his hand to the table. "Out of the frying pan, into the fire."

"Are you kidding me?"

The three raised their heads in surprise while Aile grinned widely. "This dump might be worse than that place, but here... I met the people who don't ignore me," she smiled genuinely at them.

"Yes, they are you guys. You guys mean a lot to me..."

"Hehe, sneaking off here on your own without getting caught, Aniki?" "It's unfair you know, to save all the view just for yourself."

Levi glanced at his back, and found Farlan and Isabel there. "...I can't kill anyone calmly with you two around."

The trio sat together on the rooftop, watching the twinkling stars. "...Farlan, I've made up my mind. I'm gonna trust you." Levi suddenly said.

As Farlan widened his eyes in surprise, Levi continued. "Let's finish the plan, then we'll definitely unbind ourselves from that hell."
