"Steve, I'm tired, and we haven't stopped to set up a camp for days." I said, agitated at my friend who sliced through branches and vines with his sword. He sighed softly and chuckled a little, turning his head toward me for a moment. "I know you're tired, Y/N, but we're close to a village I can tell. See the pumpkins? And we've passed by two lava pits in the last couple of miles, so don't worry. We'll stay with one of the villagers for a little bit."
I sighed, and stretched my sore arms. As I did, I felt my knee pop and I hissed and cried out in pain. Steve stopped walking and turned around quickly to see what was wrong. He frowned and sighed, kneeling to one knee and unwrapping the bandage around my knee. He examined the bloody wound, and ran a hand through his hair. "I don't want you walking on it any further. I'll carry you." "Steve you don't h-" "Just take some of my inventory and I'll carry you, Y/N."
I did as he said, and he hoisted me onto his back. I laid my head on his shoulder, and fell asleep.
I woke up to faint talking. I opened my squinted eyes, and murmured a little. Opening my eyes, I saw a Cleric leaned over my leg, cleaning my wound. "OUCH!" I flinched, feeling the sting of whatever he was cleaning my wound with. "Haj. (Calm down.)" "I'm sorry- who-" "Y/N, calm down. He's a Cleric, we're in the village. He's taking care of your knee." Steve rushed into the cleric's workplace, shutting the oak door behind hjm. "Haah. Hmmph. (Correct. I'm only trying to help.)" "What are you putting on it?" I questioned, and the Cleric reached behind him and picked up a bottle hanging on the brewing stand. "Haegh. Haa. (Potion of Healing.)" He replied, dabbing my wound with a piece of wool dipped in the potion. I winced and watched my wound sparkle and fizz in a bright pink before fading off and turning into a fresh scar.
Steve smiled in satisfaction and thanked the villager, reaching into his pocket for a thick cut emerald. The Cleric waved him off, and smiled. "Haegh, hauh. (No need. You repaired my son's stone floors, that's all I need for payment.)" He replied, a small nasally chuckle to go along with it. Steve grinned, "Anytime, doc. Thank you, we'll be on our way to the Stone Mason." Steve helped me off of the bed I was placed on and led me out of the Cleric office. He brought me to the noisy workshop of the Stone Mason and Weapon Smith, where they both greeted us and placed down their tools.
I smiled and chatted with the villagers, and made my way to a small flower vase in the corner sitting in a window sill. I reached out and pet the small leaves of the poppy, and then something else caught my eye.
I had to lean, and strain my eyes a little with a squint. There was someone standing outside that window. But not directly outside the window, behind a tree. There were a lot of trees next to this village, and this particular building was on the outer rim of it. I leaned a little against the sill, and squinted harder. "What…" I mumbled. I couldn't tell who or what it was, as the person only peaked out from behind the tree for a moment. I jumped when I felt Steve's hand on my back. "Ah!" I squealed a little, making him and the Stone Mason chuckle slightly. "What are you looking at, Y/N? Something out there?" Steve said with a small smile, looking out the window himself. "No one or no thing is out there, Y/N, calm down." He said in a comforting voice with a light chuckle. He glanced out the window again, and frowned a little. "Night time already, hm. Time flies by after trading all day, eh?" He laughed with the villagers, and then nodded his head towards the door. "Come on, Y/N. Let's find a place to sleep for now."
He led me to a nearby house, trading the villager who lived there 3 emeralds to stay the night. We snuggled into a bed, and closed our eyes for sleep. I tugged at the thin, soft sheets, and couldn't seem to get my mind off of who I saw behind that tree.
