I saw him coming from a mile away, I quickly ducked just as a arm sliced through the air missing me by inches.
Just when I thought I would actually win this one, I felt a sharp pain at the back of my neck. Then everything went black.
...
I woke up with the worst headache, 'Ow!' Someone poked me really hard on my side. It took me a moment to realise I was still on the floor of the training room. 'Get up girl!' I barely managed to get on my feet when I was knocked back down hard against the ground. 'The key element is to learn to not be caught off guard. You're weak and clumsy, take a five- minute break. Don't be late or you're doing suicides.'
I was so exhausted that I basically collapsed on the floor of my room.Just then my phone started ringing. 'Hello?' ' Hi, is this Mae Blane?' 'Yeah.' ' We were just calling to inform you that you have successfully been accepted to Farrow High.' ' Oh my gosh that's amazing thank you so much!' ' Excellent, we look forward to seeing you at the start of the semester.' And just like that she hung up. I was over the moon and I almost did a happy dance until I felt a gloomy presence at my door. ' What was that?' I almost forgot about this part. 'Um... I got accepted to Farrow High.' 'What makes you think I'm going to let you step a foot out of this house.' 'Please Eric I really want this.' ' How many times have I told you that you're not ready.' ' But I am, I can prove myself by beating you in a duel.' ' You can't even beat me on a regular basis.' ' Give me a chance to prove myself, please.' Eric let out a long, tired breath,' Fine but just this once and if you lose we will never speak about this again, deal?' 'Deal!'
This was finally my moment of freedom. I couldn't ruin this glorious opportunity. Eric stood on the far side of the room giving me an evil smirk and I knew he was NOT going to fight fair. Proving my prediction correct he removed a dagger from behind his back. But I wasn't worried because I had something more powerful. Then he suddenly came charging towards me with no warning whatsoever. I managed to side- step just in time. Taking advantage of my distraction he landed a hard punch towards my abdomen causing me to crash hard against the wall. Raging inside I wiped away blood from my bleeding nose. I pushed myself away from the wall and ran towards him sliding under his legs while simultaneously pulling my chain from around my neck and tying one end to his leg and the other to my wrist. I pulled hard and he fell so hard I could here a few bones crunching which was my favourite sound.
Without missing a beat I kicked him in his side. Eric always taught me to never hold back, to show no mercy to my opponent. He said that letting your emotions out makes you weak and vulnerable. My small victory was interrupted when a hand twisted my arm behind my back causing me to howl in pain and within seconds my face was welcomed against the ground. 'Like I said you will never beat me', Eric shouted in triumph. I placed my free hand against the cool surface of tar and concentrated. The ground beneath us shaked and massive chunks of tar plummeted from the ground shooting towards Eric as I lifted my self up and moved my hands slowly toward Eric. A sea of water rushed passed me and knocked the wind out of Eric as his head collided with the ground. I lowered my hands and the boulders returned back to their places in the ground and the water evaporated into thin air. 'I win!' I exclaimed happily.
