Chapter 39

Sam nodded and looked at Zack.

"Thank you." he said.

"There is no need to thank me." Zack said. "I came here to help."

I knew he had other reasons, but I wouldn't go into that just yet. I had plenty of time to scare the living shit out of him.

"Let’s go make some coffee." Sam said. "I can’t keep my eyes open."

Zack and I nodded and followed him to the kitchen.

My phone rang, and I pulled it out of my pocket.

It was Will.

"My contact from the police is calling." I said as I looked up at my brother.

Anger flashed in his eyes.

I picked up the call and took a deep breath.

"Will?" I said, feeling a knot in my stomach.

I turned around and walked away from my brother and Zack. I needed privacy.

"Hey, honey." Will said softly. "How are you? How is Maddie?"

His voice calmed me down instantly.

Will and I have been dating for almost a year now. I loved him with all my heart. He was an amazing man, and I was so lucky to have him.

We met in court. He was a witness in a case, and we clicked immediately. We have been inseparable ever since.

Sam didn’t know about him. He knew that I was gay, but I chose to keep Will to myself. I wanted to be sure that he was the one before I introduced him to my family. Max and Milo didn’t know that I was gay, and I was kind of afraid to tell them. I knew that they wouldn't have a problem with it, but a part of me was scared that they would see me differently. I didn’t know why. It was irrational, but I was scared. Both Will and Sam told me to tell them, but I never found a way.

I would do it soon. I had to.

"Maddie is okay." I said. "I am okay, but I am angry."

"I know, love." Will sighed. "I would be too."

"Please tell me that you locked the fuckers up." I said, closing my eyes and leaning against the wall.

"We’ve locked her foster father up." Will said, making my heart race. "We couldn't find your family, though. They disappeared. We are doing everything we can to find them."

I opened my eyes and clenched my fists.

"Do you have any idea about where they could have gone?" Will asked me.

"Not right now." I mumbled. "I am too angry to think. I will talk to the guys. Maybe they have an idea."

"Okay, love." Will said softly.

I wished that he was with me right now. I wished that I could feel his arms around me.

I took a deep breath and ran my fingers through my hair. I needed to focus.

"Please tell me that Maddie won’t have to testify in court." I said.

"She won’t." Will said, his voice changing from soft to angry. "We found enough evidence to throw that motherfucker in jail forever."

My heart raced.

"Evidence?" I mumbled.

"We found pictures and videos." Will said angrily. "He recorded everything."

I saw fucking red.

"What?!" I shouted.

I heard footsteps approaching me.

"Don’t let Maddie hear you, Ryan." Will said. "It won’t help her."

Sam and Zack walked up to me with a worried look on their faces.

"Go back to the kitchen." I said, clenching my fists. "I will tell you everything. Give me another minute."

Sam studied my face for a second.

"Sam, go." I said.

He nodded and walked back. Zack followed him, glancing at me worriedly.

"The fucker recorded it?" I asked as soon as Sam and Zack left me alone.

"Yes." Will sighed.

My heart broke. Anger flooded my body. I was ready to kill him.

"Did you see it?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"I saw only a part of it." Will sighed. "We all did. We couldn't watch it all. What that man did..."

Will stopped talking. I closed my eyes and felt tears fall on my cheeks.

"Go talk to your brothers and let me know if you have any idea where your family is." Will said, taking a deep breath.

I gulped and tightened my jaw.

"I love you, Ryan." Will said softly.

"I love you too." I mumbled.

I hung up the phone and took a deep breath.

I wanted to cry. I wanted to scream. I wanted to kill him.

I would make sure that he suffered for what he had done. I would make sure that he got hurt the same way he hurt my little girl.
