Chapter 7

We washed and dressed for the day.  Another feast.  Also tomorrow was the tournament so there would be more arriving today to compete tomorrow.  I had a lot to do today.  And I had to find a private place.  My mind made a list of the possibilities.  I also tried to work out how I could disappear to do this without being missed.

It was late morning and I had almost finished the Hall when he found me.  He didn’t say anything at first his eyes lit up and he smiled at me.  I turned away before I too grinned at him like a village idiot. There were too many eyes in the Hall.

“So my Lady, have you found what I have asked?”

“There are a number of...”

“Maeb, are you being rude again?” the King growled out at me, “if Lord Torc has asked you to do something you will do it, do you understand.  Lord Torc will be fighting tomorrow and I don’t want anything to distract him from his prize. You will give him everything he asks for Maeb, or you will feel my anger.”

“Anything he asks for?” I questioned

“Yes, you will!  Ohh and you will dance tonight.”

“You want me to dance?  But your majesty..” he struck me in the face, not hard enough the throw me to the ground just enough to silence me.

“Insolent girl.  You will learn manners.” He turned to Torc, “Let me know if she isn’t doing everything she can.  Ohh I like the new flag, yours?  Who was the lucky girl?” The King didn’t seem interested in a reply to his questions.

“A warrior does not discuss his conquests of the night.” Torc said quietly holding back his anger.

“I don’t know there seem to be plenty of stories around.  I heard about you and the triplets, were they really identical?  Ohh and you might want to rest tomorrow night.  We are hunting on horseback the next day!  Unless you ride sidesaddle!” the King laughed as he walked away.

I turned to Torc who had his eyes closed and was breathing heavily trying to control his anger.  He opened his eyes and looked at me.  Nothing needed to be said.  He followed me as I led him out of the hall to the rear stairs.  Directly under the hall dug into the bank was the cellar.  There were no windows.  I looked out before I turned through the small door that took us to the stairs that went down to the cellar.

We didn’t get far.  I caught his smile as the door closed taking the all the light but the faint glow from around the door.  He kissed me against the rough oak door.  His kisses were filled with hot desire and screaming with passion. Never before had I had the tongue of another explore my mouth, and yet his now knew mine almost as well as his own.  As he kissed me his hand fought the layers of garments that I wore.  His body pressed into mine and we both struggled to find each other. As we pulled at clothing, our lips still locked in our kiss, we shoved each other backwards and forward between the walls at the top of the stairs until he eventually pulled me down to sit on the top stair.

In the dark musty air he moved himself up my reclined figure.  He sought me.  He found me.  Then he took me on the stairs, sometime my back against the cold stone stairs, other times his.  We slowly made it to the bottom working our way down.  We were on the bottom step when we heard the voices.  Torc scooped me up and quickly but without breaking our bond moved us further to the back of the cellar. He had me pushed up against the brick wall in the dark far corner when the two men came in.

“Hell, did you see that flag this morning.  Those bastards.  I wish my useless wife had sent my daughter off before they had arrived.  I think it is too late now.  She was starry eyed yesterday and today she is crying.  Damn.  Ohh well there will be new blood arriving tonight for the tourney, that should keep the twelve busy.  Hell I have heard that the King is keen on the daughter of De Burge.  She looks like a twig, no titty, no arse, no shape.  Maybe we’ll have another Royal Wedding soon.”
