To see if a species is worth sparing, an alien species attacks the defensive structure of another planet with their own weaponry, appearing to them as dopplegangers. So far, they haven't found a worthy planet to spare.
On Earth, news starts spreading when the might of the military starts attacking themselves across every country and territory. Subs are firing at towns and cities. Ships are turning on one another, and airborne dogfights are erupting everywhere, and without warning. A group of military school cadets must complete the impossible task of finding out how to defeat these creatures before the entire world is destroyed. But their last hope resides at a fabled fortitude called Calico Bay, where the invasion began.

I loved this idea: America vs America, or Russia vs Russia; just a bunch of countries suddenly turning on each other without warning. And a cool idea I had too was that, at some point, those trying to stop it run into themselves (the aliens mimicking them), and they basically have to fight against their own weakness and strengths
