Chronic Fatigue

Nico Di Angelo was absolutely exhausted.

He had shadow travelled across the country from California to New York to San Francisco and it took what was left of his energy to not fall asleep as he collapsed through the entrance to Camp Half Blood.

As he fell on all fours through the magical barrier, a blur of voices and shoes around him as he was lifted onto a stretcher. He recognised all of the medics, though one mess of blonde hair at his side caught his eye.

"Will?" His voice echoes in his own ears and his words slurred. Will Solace, Nico's boyfriend flashed him a smile before becoming serious again, and Nico knew what was coming.

"You idiot, I told you no more shadow travelling. How could you be so irresponsible as to put your health at risk. I told you, doctors orders to rest and-" Will rambled but Nico cut him off.

"Would you shut up? I'm fine, doctor," Nico retorted with a roll of his eyes. He wasn't annoyed, not really. He couldn't hold in his small smile as he looked up at Will, so grateful for his presence.

"Alright, I'll shut it. For now." By then, they'd reached the medical unit, and they placed Nico down.

They all knew the drill by now; he pulled this stunt far too often for them to not have a routine. They left a tall glass of nectar on the stand next to his bed, and just a few squares of ambrosia with it. All the medics left except Will. The wing was empty, but it was September so that wasn't particularly strange, since most kids had gone to school or were on quests, recruiting new demigods. Will held Nico's hand gently in his and sat back in the wooden chair. He unconsciously cracked his neck and looked at Nico, his annoyance from earlier softening as soon as he saw the exhaustion on the pale boys face.

"What we're you thinking? Ever since we first spoke I have told you again and again not to do that. What if we have another situation like the one in Rome? What if you had turned into darkness? What if-" Nico, once again, cut his boyfriend off.

"Look, enough with the what-ifs. I spent half my life rotting in what-ifs. I'm sorry I worried you but shadow travelling is just so much easier than mortal transport." Nico hoped Will wouldn't question any other methods of travel and would let it go; he brushed his thumb against Will's knuckles and attempted to change the subject. "Anything new going on at camp? I mean, I have been gone a few weeks."

Thankfully, he fell for it.

"No, nothing new," he sighed, "I can't believe you let me stress like this. I mean, not even an iris message!" Will had to chuckle; he couldn't stay mad forever.

"I'm not going to apologise again. I'm fine now, just let it go, okay?" Will nodded in agreement and handed Nico the glass, helping him take a few sips before he had the strength to hold it himself.

"Do you want me to leave you alone to rest?" Will started to get out of the chair, but seeing Nico's glare he sat back down.

"Just stay for a while," Nico said, his eyes closing.

"I will, I'm not going anywhere, I promise," Will spoke softly, trying not to disturb his boyfriend.

"You promise?" Nico asked, barely above a whisper.

"On the sun and the stars," Will vowed with a smile.

As Nico finally gave into his fatigue, Will realised he would do anything for the stubborn boy laying on the cot. He smiled and sat back, keeping his promise.
