Being a small town girl and growing up in small colony of middle class families, I and my sister Reshma still gets the things that we needed. Let it be food or clothes, my parents will never say 'no' to fulfil our desires.. and obviously we don't ask the things that our parents couldn't afford.
"Reema, stop talking and come take your books." Yelled my teacher. I and my friends were busy talking about last few days in Primary School and we were so worried about High School. I hate to go to High School as I always see how the High School students behaves outside the school compound. Whenever our school van goes to my sister's high school to fetch her and few others, I will be watching all of them. Some of them will be walking around, some will be yelling to each other with bad words and some will be dating at a corner. All this gave me a trauma and anxiety... and I almost cry thinking of growing up and entering new phase of school life next year. I felt like 'why I need to grow up'???
Finally the day has come. Last day of primary school and teacher has announced the schools that everyone has to report next year. I was kinda happy because there was new High school at our area. I and my best friend got to report to that school next year. We were happy and started to make plans to walk to the school together.
Days passes and first day of school started. We were told to go to another High School on the first day or Orientations as our new school still incomplete due to some government approvals. In that old school, suddenly a bad situation happened. My name was called out and I was sent to one of the classes in the school and the teacher there told me I will be studying in that class for this year. I was sad and shocked...I was clueless and don't know what to do. My best friend and other close friends were still at the school hall as they are assigned to the new school, meanwhile I'm the only one who was called and separated from them.
I sat quietly in the classroom and the teacher were calling out names one by one from the list. I was thinking wether or not to tell the teacher that I was not supposed to be here and I was assigned to go to the new school but poor me, don't have the guts to tell the new teacher. I was in a mixed feelings.. sad, shocked and scared. But suddenly I told myself if I never voice out now, I'm gonna be alone in this school and class without my friends and it gonna be a nightmare to be with strangers. I stood and walked close to the teacher and told her that my name was mistakenly added in this list and I was supposed to go to the new school instead.
Thank God the teacher was kind. "Oh really? I will go check with the teacher in charge and update" said the teacher. She left the classroom and came after 15 mins and told me the happiest news. "Reema, yes are not supposed to be here, darling". With a smile on her face. I've never been so happy. She also told me to go join my other friends at the school hall. I immediately carried my bag, said thank you to the teacher and left with happiness.
The changes begin at this moment.. from hating to be in high school to never miss to go to school. It's all about that one person that I'm gonna meet in the new school.
