Tomorrow Is A Wish

Tomorrow is a wish
We plan and dream for
But can't reach,
Until we strive a little further.

When one dies,
His family takes off their beads, jewellery and everything of colour away.
All replaced with black.
Of dark earth.

For a soul has been lost
To his final destination.
To sorrow, they mourn.
Some cut their hair in memory of the dead.
Others burn the dead's belongings to ease the deceased soul.
To the air of fresh earth.

But these people you hug and kiss are uncultured.
Maybe they had one and had lost it in the process of ignorant civilization.
When one dies, they dress and celebrate,
Toast and dine
With alcohol and wine.
Over a person's death.
Here, death mean nothing,
No respect.
But to us, its everything.
More respect.

Amoke- Labimpe's mother, raises controversial issues in this poem. But she only puts out her point of view and hatred for the Western culture. This talks about how she thinks they treat the dead. Do you agree with her points?
