Chapter Twenty Two: Water

Start from the beginning

I pushed him off and got back up, before Joe spoke up.

"Did you just give your last drops of water to your dog!?" He exclaimed.

"Yeah. So?" I said, with an semi-aggressive tone.

"Humpf." He uttered. "Don't expect us to give you any water. You should really learn how to take care of yourself before you take care of others."

"I didn't ask for any. This is my dog and he is just as worthy as any of us" I said. He let out another humpf and went back to is own business.

"Come on, lads." Said Apollo. "It will be night before we know it."

We all agreed to keep moving forward, before dark came along, which is when it was the most dangerous time.

"Learn how to take care of yourself..." I mumbled while looking down, watching each foot create a trail of footprints in the snow.

Learning how to take care of myself was something I had big trouble with. It was quite funny actually. I've heard the term so many times that it really showed what kind of person I was.

flashback:

I woke up with excruciating pain in the head and arm. I was quite confused, one minute I was beating up an idiot and the next minute I was sleeping on a comfy sofa.

When my eyes were focused, I realized I was in my room. The lights were quite dim and the room was empty. What the hell happened?

"Oh. Roukan! You're finally awake!"

It was Rylie, standing on the doorway holding two mugs.

"Ryl-"

"Don't get up idiot. You don't need to do any more damage to yourself." She said, alert. "Here."

She helped me sit up and put a pillow behind my back after putting the mugs on the coffee table.

I looked at my arm, confused that it was in a cast.

"Since when did I get a cast?" I asked.

"We went to the hospital. Don't you remember?" She asked.

"Actually...I don't." I replied.

I looked at her and realised her eye was really bruised.

"Holy hell Rylie! What happened to you?" I asked, worried.

"Relax. I'm fine." She said quickly so I wouldn't worry so much about it. "You should be more worried about yourself." She added.

She picked up one of the mugs and passed it to me.

"Ginger tea." She said. "You'll feel much better afterwards."

We sat there for a few minutes, both sipping our tea with no talking. I was very quiet, trying to figure out what happened these past few hours.

I turned to Rylie and she had a troubled and worried look on her face. I knew something bothered her.

"Is... everything okay?" I asked.

"Why did you do that?" She said, suddenly. "Why did you save me from him?"

"What do you mean?"

"Roukan. You and I both know any person wouldn't have done that. Then, why did you?"

"Well...because..." I stuttered, then became clueless about my answer. "I don't know."
