Insufficient (The Poem That Broke Us)

It's January,
I've got July on repeat,
but I can't seem to make
your heart beat.

I've been trying to make you smile,
for a little over a while,
but I guess I'm not enough,
isn't the truth rough.

You know how I hate when beauty turns ugly.
When the swans in the lake
die for death's sake.

So, maybe I should leave and not let you know.
Find someone who makes you smile harder than I do, get on the go.

Because, clearly I'm not enough to make your whole day.
Which is why I might as well leave and go to waste away.

And I know a lot of things are wrong,
when I'm listening to this song,
I just feel like one.

And you're both always so sick, leaving me alone,
with nothing but dirt and a brick,
but it's not your fault.
I've been on the phone,
recording dumb stuff alone,
like this is your fault,
when it's not.

Don't be sad, you'll make me feel the same.
Why don't you cheer up, why don't we play a game?
I've had enough tears,
for this year,
and it's just begun.
What happened to fun?

Didn't know it was that hard to smile or laugh.
Didn't know I was this useless, so much for my magic staff.

I think I'll let myself out the door,
because I shouldn't be near you anymore.

All I do is make it worse,
like I'm some sick and twisted curse.

So, let me take my leave,
let us cleave
for now.

I'll be back to you soon,
maybe just before noon,
not now.

Maybe she's the one for you,
and I was just your sticky glue.

So, let me let myself out,
I know what this is about,
alright?

You don't need to shout,
or throw your arms about,
it's alright.

Because my wig's not bright enough,
and my clown nose not red enough.

My jokes aren't funny anymore,
and your cheeks aren't ever sore.

Be happy, this time.
Happier with her ain't a crime.

I know she loves you so,
so why don't you just go?

I'm not good enough for you anyway.
So let me get on my boat and sail away.

All I've ever been was insufficient.
But you made me feel magnificent.
