I always loved the smell of rain, and the aesthetic of it all, the ominous clouds and the gentle breezes fill me with a strange sense of belonging.
I was little when all of that happened, 14 to be exact, I was finally getting better at school and me and my dad were starting to talk about him again, perhaps because it was his anniversary soon.
It is difficult for me to forget that day,I awoke with a strong sunray in my face in my innocent yet dark room, which was filled with objects from various hobbies that my father had instructed me to do so that I could deal with what happen in a healthy way, but in the end i always hear him and had fun will doing it, a lot of things i know today is because of him, bird watching, gardening, stargazing...and morse code...
To be honest I never blamed him because of what happened...
As I was saying, I woke up on a sunny day. I put on my school uniform a white shirt under a black dress held by two straps, and a striped black and white tie. I heard my father call me from the kitchen, the smell of the pancakes and honey made me hungry enough so that i prepared myself as fast as i could, stuffing everything i need for today in my bag.
Loretta, the pancakes are getting cold!!! - I hear him downstairs and almost trip over my telescope on the way, I let it in near the window in the main corridor of the second floor.
Almost there!!! - I scream while running down the stairs into the kitchen, making a little person with my hand running alongside me in the pink handrail.
I walked into the kitchen and calmly sat down where a plate of pancakes was waiting for me after throwing my bag into the hallway.
Did you have a good sleep little one? - After finding me sobbing on top of my math book and mumbling things I should have told the therapist, he came and helped me study for the math test today. He genuinely cares about me and makes every effort to make me happy.
Yes. - I lied. - Altho I ended up revising one last time before going to sleep.
And you sure you have everything you need? - he starts putting away the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and taking off his apron that says "Live, Laugh, Eat", revealing his gray suit.
Yap, everything is in there! - I finished eating and put the plate in the dishwasher, grabbing a juice box to drink on the way. - I'm ready! - I put the bag on my back and waited in the hallway for him.
Ready? - He asks me while approaching the door and resting his hand on the door handle.
Yes! - I say with an excited smile on my face.
Then, let 's go. - He opens the door and to our surprise, it was raining.
Ayo? Was it supposed to rain today? - I remember yesterday when we were watching TV , and today was supposed to be sunny all day long. - I was so excited it was going to be the longest day of the year...but I do prefer studying with background noise.
Then let's grab our umbrellas and go before the rain gets stronger!
We got our umbrellas and entered the car, the rain was becoming more and more aggressive, the wind howled while pushing the trees on the sidewalk making them wave to everyone that passed through. I turn on the radio to hear the town radio channel.
Hello everyone and welcome back, today a strange rain came from nowhere and it will stay here for a while! - I turn it off.
You could at least wait until they start putting music on. - He says while making it best to drive in the now heavy rain.
Exactly, then they pass a trendi music that I will not be able to get rid of during the test. I look at the window gazing into the dark clouds, they almost seem to want to talk.
Relax, you studied really hard! - He reassures me by giving me a nice thumbs up.
As we approach the school and stop in its parking lot, my dad gets a message. It was an email from my school.
It says here that...your teacher...basically you don't have school until the rain ends. - His face...was shocked he smiled but i could see that something was off, i didn't ask anything about it i was just frustrated because all the studying i did was for nothing and i could have just been relaxing while listening to the rain.
Ok, let's go home then...- I was sad, and irritated but after hearing the wind and smelling the petrichor I think it will be ok.
