I chuckle softly at her. She is adorable. "Hi Tuk, my name is Amelia."
"Oh I know, everyone is talking about you." My eyes widen at her statement.
"Oh really?"
"Mhm." She seems to have lost interest in our conversation because she quickly grabs hold of my hand and drags me across the dining area. I look back at Neytiri for help but she seems almost pleased that Tuk is taking me away.
Great. Absolutely fucking awesome.
Tuk goes on about how her bestfriend and her are fighting and its because some guy said that he liked Tuk but starting talking with her friend. I became genuinely interested in her story. She pulls me into the line to get food while she continues. When we arrive at her families table Tuk points out the boy and the girl she was fighting with.
I smile in amusement when she sticks her tongue out at them. As we sit down I ignore the looks given to me by Neteyam and continue listening to Tuk.
"Guess what the worst part is?"
"What?"
She gets close to tell me something 'really' important "Tarya doesn't even like him."
"What?" I fake gasp and laugh quietly at her. It seems the whole family is looking at our exchange. I don't mind, I like Tuk, she is fun.
"They are both skxawngs."
"Language Tuk.'' She simply rolls her eyes at her mom and goes on about how they deserve it and how her mom calls her dad a skxawng all the time.
The family breaks out in laughter at Tuks attitude. It is so weird to see a family function like this. On the rare occasion my mother I would spend dinner together we talk about her work, or science. We would never joke around or have fun. Even though I don't particularly like her, I've always felt an undeniable love for her. It's like it's impossible for me to hate her, no matter how hard I try I just can't.
"Ameliaaaa. Hellooo?" I quickly avert my gaze to Tuk, apologizing for spacing out. From the corner of my eye I see Jake and Neytiri share concerned glances but I don't say anything about it.
"Neteyam." I hear Jake say, "Would you mind taking Amelia to your grandmother? Her wounds need to be checked." Neteyam seems annoyed but he agrees nevertheless. He grabs his empty plate and nods for me to follow him.
I get up, grabbing my empty plate as well. While we are walking I try to make small talk but it is very one-sided.
"Thank you for doing this, and for yesterday." I smile widely hoping for an answer.
"Your welcome." He doesn't even look at me.
"So you're the oldest out of everyone, huh?"
"Mhm." I roll my eyes at his boring answer.
"Okay then..." I give up quickly. He very obviously does not want to be near me. As we are walking by I start to notice the people around us. At first I thought they were looking at me but then I realized that all the girls around us were practically fawning over Neteyam. Teenage girls our age were just blatantly staring.
I look over Neteyam but his eyes are still trained in front of him as he leads us to Mo'at. He doesn't even notice. If he does he is very good at not showing it. Or maybe he's just used to it.
The awkward silence seems to drone on forever. He stops abruptly and I nearly walk straight into him, catching myself only at the last moment.
I purse my lips, trying to find words that he would appreciate but i don't think there are any. He prefers silence when it comes to me.
He looks at me briefly and puts his hand out, telling me that Mo'at resides in there. I roll my eyes at his petty behavior. He doesn't seem to notice though because he is already striding away.
I pretend I am not hurt by his rude behavior and walk into the hollow tree. I see Mo'at causing me to smile broadly. It is nice to see a friendly face. She smiles back and motions for me to sit.
"How has your first day been?" Her thick accent is prominent when she speaks English. I appreciate her trying for me though. I could surprise her and start speaking Na'vi but I decide to wait.
It might prove useful. Although I'm pretty sure Jake and Neytiri already know.
"It's been alright. Not much has happened, but the day has just started." She laughs at me and nods her head.
"I think you will fit in just fine."
"Thank you."
★★★
*Neteyam's POV*
"Why am i always expected to do everything?"
"Because you're the oldest- I'm supposed to be able to count on you when I need to and right now this is what I need of you."
"No. No way Dad. I am a warrior not your babysitter. I already babysit enough with Lo'ak" I see Lo'ak give me a glare from the corner of my eye but i ignore it. My dad lets out a frustrated sigh.
He stands up preparing to walk away, like he always does whenever things are too stressful. I shake my head at him with a scoff. He's always walking away from the difficult discussions.
"You will train her and treat her like one of our own. Understand?"
"Yes sir."
