Everyone was taken back and started to question who the killer could be. As for me, I don't want to make assumptions before I get to know them.
"W-Who's taking the gun?" Caitlyn tried to say through her tears. We all stayed quite for a second before I spoke up.
"I could take it... I'm a cop." The problem with that statement was that I worked at the phones, not out on the field with guns. After a second everyone nodded and I leaned down to pick up the cold piece stainless steel in my hand. It sent shivers down my spine at the fact that I might have to kill someone with it. I didn't want to hurt anyone but at this point it was the innocent's lives or the kidnappers.
"Can I talk to each of you separately?" I looked around the room. I had a one in five chance of killing the right person and I knew the consequences of killing the wrong person. They all slowly nodded one by one.
"I think I'm going to start with Tyler." I decided after thinking it over. I was most curious about the man I didn't know but I was also most terrified of him; I chose to see him last. I walked away from the large group and went to an area where it was silent. Tyler followed behind me and we both sat down on the ground. I took a deep breath and put the gun behind me before starting.
"I'm sorry Tyler but I need to get right into things. What do you do for your job?" I could tell he was nervous but was it about the questions I was asking or the fact that we only have three hours?
"I don't have a job, I'm in grade 11."
"Do you have a criminal record?"
"No I rarely get in trouble."
"Who do you think is the killer?" After about a minute of thought he answered.
"Caitlyn." I was taken back from what he said. She was so sad when she found out about the bomb and she was so small. How could she have overpowered all of us?
"Why Caitlyn?"
"Something seems off about her. She started to cry before she even looked at the bomb." I thought for a second and realized what he said was true.
"Thanks Tyler can you send Ash over?" He nodded and quietly got up, heading back to the group. After an hour I only had the mystery man left. All of them said that they didn't have a criminal record; Annie is a high school student, Caitlyn is a nurse and Ash is a commentator. Caitlyn and Ash think it's the unknown guy and Annie thinks its Tyler. I have to remember everything so I can add it all together.
We had less than two hours left; I had to make a decision soon, which I definitely didn't want to do. They'll hate me if I get it wrong, I'm worried. I was snapped out of my thoughts by the person sitting in front of me.
"My name's Alexandra, quite ironic in this situation." I give a small smile trying not to show how scared I was.
"Why is it ironic?"
"The meaning of it is defender of mankind and right now that's what I'm doing." I gave a nervous laugh but the man still looked unimpressed. I had my hand on top of the gun, just in case.
"Interesting, my name's Talon and the meaning. Well that I don't know" he gave a small smile.
"Talon is a claw of an eagle, there isn't really a meaning to it as a name." After this came an awkward silence. A minute passed before I realized I was wasting precious time.
"What do you do for a job?"
"Aerospace engineer."
"Do you have a criminal record?"
"Yes. I was arrested for physical assault at age 17."
"How old are you now?"
"20." I started to feel uneasy and held on tighter to the gun.
