I fell onto the cold cement floor with a loud thump and a screech in pain. At this point I knew my ankle was, at the very least, strained. I went silent, trying to calm the pain, and that's when I heard it, breathing. But this breathing was calm and even, mine was scratchy and rough.
I looked around to find five people, three male, two female, lying on the ground, peacefully sleeping. I felt a spark of hope, that we might be able to overpower our kidnappers, but soon faded when I realized that there were no windows, or doors. They were all blocked by carrier crates; I was horrified and in pain because of my ankle.
"I need a distraction." I spoke out loud even though I knew no one could hear me; before I realized what I was doing, I found myself staring, well more like memorizing, the people around me. Both of the females were beautiful, but in two very different ways. The one thing they had in common was that they were both skinny, one almost sickly skinny.
One had hip long, rainbow hair and the other had shoulder long, wavy brown hair. I was worried about the health of the one with rainbow hair but something told me that she was going through hard times.
I stopped myself from thinking further by looking at the three boys; the first had long black hair styled off to the side, he looked so fragile. The second had short metallic blue hair and was pale, so pale that he could probably blend into the snow that's now gone. The final male was terrifying; he looked so strong that it was questioning how he got over powered and brought here.
"What am I going to do?" My voice cracked at the end. I looked over to the people and was taken aback by what I realized.
"These are the people who went missing. The girl with brown hair is Caitlyn, the one with rainbow hair is Annie, the male with black hair is Tyler, and the one with blue hair is Ash. But who is the final man?" I found it useless to talk to myself and soon heard a small beeping noise.
Normally my curious self would go find what it was, but my ankle won't allow me to get up. Along with that, I needed someone to talk to. I started to drag myself over to the person I feel like I could trust the most; Annie.
When I got right in front of her I realized just how small she was. I held back my tears and gently shook her, hoping it would wake her up. She stirred slightly before opening her eyes.
"P-please don't hurt me." She stuttered while whispering. She had bright, birch leave green eyes and her tears made them sparkle, she was trying to hide how scared she was.
"It's okay, you're safe." I gave her a reassuring smile. I didn't realize how tense she was until she started to relax, showing that she trusts me. I let out a sigh in relief and my smile grew a bit knowing that for the first time, I had a friend.
"Can you help me? I want to find out what that beeping noise is but I sprained my ankle." She propped herself up by her arm and stayed silent, listening to the sound. After a minute she nodded and got up, walking towards where the noise was coming from. I laid back down, listening to her footsteps slowly fade away. I was falling asleep when I heard a loud screech. I quickly shot up.
"Annie!" I shouted while getting on my feet trying to ignore the pain. By now everyone was awake, but all I wanted to know was if Annie was safe. I could hear the mumbles of questions, but I just ran in the direction Annie went. With every step came a new shock of pain but I felt the need to protect her and right now that's what's pushing me to keep going.
When I got to the back of the large room the beeping sound was clear as day. My breathing got heavy as I slowly walked behind the large crate.
"Annie?" I whispered. She was looking the opposite way of me and didn't respond whatsoever to my voice. I walked next to her and touched her arm; once again she just stared forwards as if I wasn't even there.
I looked in front of her but nothing could have prepared me for what I saw. The noise was coming from a bomb and on that bomb had a timer, slowly ticking back the time. It said we had three hours left, Annie was in a state of shock and I knew that I couldn't help her; she had to calm down on her own.
My knees fell from under me, just as they did before I blacked out and I started to cry. We had three hours to live, we had no way of disabling it and even if we did it probably has ten wires, a one in ten chance of survival. I felt so hopeless, so weak, but I knew I had to do something. I could hear the shuffle of feet turning to go where I was and they came to see the bomb and most went into tears too.
None of the girls were staying strong, but Caitlyn looked like she was taking it the worst. All the boys looked deep in thought and I knew we needed someone to take charge. We would have no hope unless someone came up with a plan. I wiped my tears and looked around to find a voice recorder.
"Guys, I found something." I sniffled and picked up the small box. I looked around to find everyone staring at me, waiting for me to play the cassette, even Annie was back to normal. I took in a deep breath before clicking the button, making it start to talk.
"Hello and welcome to a game I call 'The Mystery'. There are six of you in a large warehouse to play my little game. The rules are simple, among you is a killer, the rest are innocent. The bomb in front of you is your timer; for every innocent killed, the bomb loses an hour along with the time going on. Your goal is to kill the kidnapper and get both the key and an item to disable to bomb. There is one pistol, choose wisely who you give it to. If you give it to the killer then they can kill others to take down your time. I hope you listened because you can't replay this tape. Good luck." The mysterious voice was alternated so we couldn't figure out whose it was.
