"Alright, well you know how this goes," Jackson's voice filled the room, instantly gaining the attention of everyone. "Birth, maturity, then eventually you gotta fuck something–"

I cough out a laugh as the rest of the class erupts in pure amusement. I'm pretty sure Priya was hysterical, but Mrs. Mullins was not pleased.

"Alright Jackson. You two can sit down."

"But I haven't even finished!" he argued.

"Sit. Down." she demanded quite calmly, though, still voicing her irritance.

He looked at me, widened his eyes, and took a bow in accomplishment.

God I can't believe him.

"Are you insane?" I hushed a whispered to him.

"Whatever Em, I got it done didn't I?" he jokes, pushing my head as we walk to our seats.

I sat down with a sigh and pulled my hood up. Leaning over the table I crossed my arms and laid my head down.

I was terribly tired despite sleeping for an unusual amount of time. I guess we were the last presentation because the room went silent after our little show.

Much to my dismay, I had to admit that Jackson was right. I was freezing even having this sweatshirt on. I don't know what I would've done if he didn't give it to me.

Probably complain.

A few minutes later I felt something placed in front of me. I opened my eyes and saw his phone, the screen clearly that of a text message.

Mom: I want you two here by 4:30

I slid his phone back to him and mumbled my approval. I shifted my arms into a more comfortable position and closed my eyes again.

But that was quickly interrupted by a tap on my arm. "Em. Let's go." he whispered.

I turned my head to him and blinked open my eyes. "What?"

"Just follow me." he said before scooting his chair back and standing up.

He then proceeded to ask to go to the bathroom and I watched him promptly leave the class. I had an idea as to where this was going, but I had to act accordingly.

I waited another minute or two before raising my hand.

"Yes?" Mrs. Mullins asked, clearly not wanting to be bothered.

"Can I go to the bathroom?" I asked, obviously not needing to.

Her brow raised, questioning the accountability of my request. I sat there silently praying, but there's no reason for her not to let me go.

"Please." I added, giving her a look of concern to persuade her more.

"Fine." she huffed, sitting back in her seat.

I silently applauded myself before strolling out of the classroom. When I was certain I was out of view I speeded down the hallway.

With a smile on my face I opened the front door and walked outside. I barely got my hood up when I heard my name.

"Emery!"

I hop down the steps and look around to find the person who called me. I finally found someone outside and as they came closer, my smile faltered.

Not him.

Looking at their sweatshirt, I immediately knew who it was. "Eric..." I dragged out his name.

He walked up to me and I could almost see the disappointment in his face. "Look...you were right." he starts. "About her."

Oh boy.

I roll my eyes understanding what he's going on about. "Of course I was." I sighed, crossing my arms.

The rain fell even harder, making me want to get out of here quicker. I had an itch at where this was going and honestly, I did not want to stick around for it.

"Em, I'm so sorry. I really messed up." he tries to form an apology.

I don't even take his word for it. He's only sorry because Summer got rid of him in a week.

I swear she gets bored so easily.

Her longest relationship was with Finn. That lasted a month and a half which isn't even that long if you think about it.

"Eric. We broke up–"

"I know and it was a mistake." he cuts me off.

I swear, even trying to apologize, his obnoxiousness doesn't seem to settle down.

At least let me finish a sentence.

"I messed up–"

This time he's cut off by the blaring honk of a horn. I turn around and narrow my eyes, looking through the rain.

It was Jackson's car.

"We're over Eric, ok? Let's just leave it at that." I said, backing away from him.

I hugged the sweatshirt closer to myself as I jogged over to Jackson's car. I hopped in and shut the door letting out a breath.

"What'd he have to say?" he was quick to ask.

I was just as quick to shut him down. "Nothing. Just drive. Please."

I buckled myself up and looked out the window as the car went silent. A short moment later he pulled away from the school.

Leaving everyone and especially that conversation in the dust.
