Prompt: "Shut up I'm doing it!"

Summary: Y/N has a crush on Percy, a boy from one of their freshman classes at New Rome University. When they see him across the quad at a bake sale, they decide it's time to try to build a relationship beyond just sitting together in class (with a little help and encouragement from their friend, of course).

"What the hell are those?"

I frowned at my friend as she stared down at the plate of cookies I'd made for our club's bake sale. We got a little bit of funding from our college, New Rome University, but if we wanted to go on some of our planned trips later in the year, we needed to do some fundraising in preparation.

"They're cookies. Obviously. What did you think they were, golden drachma?"

"No, that's not what I meant," she said, shaking her head. "I mean, why are they rainbow colored?"

"Because, Emma, that's more fun and I'm a legacy of Iris. Duh."

Emma huffed a laugh and shook her head. "Fair enough, I guess. Maybe it'll attract more attention to our table, too."

"Of course it will, because they look fantastic. I don't know why you're-"

I froze mid-sentence as I caught sight of someone across the quad. Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon and the kid who sat next to me in Greek and Roman History, had just wandered into the bake sale. I'd had a massive crush on him since freshman orientation, and other than occasionally saying hi to him or asking him a question in class, I hadn't managed to get up the nerve to do anything about it.

"Y/N? Hey, earth to Y/N." I shook my head and then scowled as Emma snapped her fingers in front of my face. "Were you seriously that zoned out staring at Percy Jackson?"

"No!" I brushed her off, but I could tell she saw right through my ridiculous lie.

"Alright, enough. I'm not going to sit here and watch you pine for the next four years of college. Go over there and talk to him."

"What? No way!" I said, whirling around to face her. I stared at her like she was crazy, but she held her ground. "Come on, Emma, what would I even talk to him about?"

"Literally anything!" she cried, throwing her hands up in frustration. "Your class together, what it's like being freshmen, the weather! Hades, you have the perfect excuse sitting in your hands! Go over and offer him a cookie for the bake sale, it's perfect."

"I don't know... he's clearly busy talking to his friend."

"Y/N. You go over there and you talk to him, or I will shout across the quad and bring him over here."

"Emma, come on-"

"Hey! Per-"

"Shut up I'm doing it!" I cried, flinging the hand that wasn't holding the cookies out to try to get Emma to stop shouting. Thankfully, she did, and I sighed in relief when I glanced over my shoulder and realized Percy hadn't noticed her. "Alright, I guess... I guess here goes nothing."

Emma crossed her arms and grinned at me as I nervously took a few steps away from her, towards Percy. This was truly the last thing I wanted to do–I wanted to talk to Percy, yes, but I didn't want to deal with being the one to take the leap and initiate conversation!

Still, I knew for a fact that if I chickened out Emma would take things into her own hands again, and then I'd be in a much worse place than if I just swallowed my fear and went to talk to him.
