Chapter 5 (Zoey)

I wondered why he was being so secretive about what he was. What if he is a Normal? I thought. Nah. He couldn't be. And even if he was, so what? It's not like he was trying to capture me or anything. Right? If he was a Norm, he was probably in a Super controlled city and he was at risk. But his dad worked for the government...

He messaged me again and distracted me from my thoughts.

JJ123: "So how old are you?"

ZoZobird: "16."

JJ123: "Sweet! I'll be 17 in a month."

We talked more about random things for the next little while. I found out that he used to be on his city's soccer team, before the war spread to our country and created segregation between the Norms and the Supers. I told him that I used to go to soccer games all the time with my friends. All my friends knew that I had a thing for soccer players. There was so reason to tell him that.

In the next couple of weeks, I discovered a lot. I explored my room (not that there was much to see) to keep myself occupied. While I wasn't exploring I was talking to JJ.

In my room, I found a trap door under my bed. I couldn't open it because my bed was in the way, so I left it for now. There was a small closet at one end of my room. It was barely big enough for me to stand in, yet there were many things inside of it. I decided to leave the closet to explore another day so I didn't run out of things to do.

I also found out more information about JJ. Through his emails and IMs I found out that he was an only child. His mom left when he was a baby because she couldn't handle living with someone "of a different kind" according to his dad, and the only time his dad actually paid attention to him was when they were working. He also told me that he dreamt of becoming a world famous soccer player and getting to travel the world because of his job.

As much as I hated to admit it, the more I learned about him the more I started to fall for him.
