He waited inside the elevator as it rose to the selected floor in the building, Ken's foot tapping impatiently as he leaned against the cool metal wall. Two days after the incident at Mr. Chen's store, he received a phone call from Ragdoll of the Wild Wild Pussycats, requesting to meet with him about joining an operation they were planning. He was already open to working with other heroes, but when she mentioned it was a move against the boss of the thugs that attacked Mr. Chen, the mysterious man only known as Homura, he jumped at the opportunity.
Finally, with the resounding ring of the elevator, it slowed to a halt before the doors slid open. Stepping out, he was met with an office looking space. There were four desks, only one being occupied by a green-haired woman with large eyes. When the elevator doors opened, she turned in his direction.
"Ah!" She stood quickly, walking over to him. "You must be Onyx, am I right? We spoke over the phone."
"Ragdoll," he recalled, looking down to see her extending a hand. He firmly shook it. "Nice to meet you."
"Oh, I don't go as Ragdoll anymore," she chuckled, although he could detect the unease in her tone. "I'm sure you've heard. I'm just Tomoko Shiretoko now."
"Sorry," he said, a little awkward. "So, uh, am I just meeting you here?"
"Oh no, you'll be meeting the others in that room." She pointed at the double doors.
He frowned. "You're not joining?"
"I have calls to make. Hope you guys do well!" She gave him a thumbs up, and he returned it in kind with a smile as he disappeared past the doors.
On the other side was three different heroes, the other three members of the Wild Wild Pussycats; Mandalay, Pixie-Bob, and Tiger. They all wore the same outfit with only variations in color; skirt, short top that revealed their gut, knee-high boots, and cat-themed gloves. Mandalay was red, Pixie-Bob was blue, and Tiger was brown. He also noticed some other features of theirs; Pixie-Bob's blonde bangs fell over her forehead, obscuring a barely visible scar. Tiger's eyes had no irises, just all white, and his mouth was actually catlike.
"Onyx!" Pixie-Bob grinned, waving her hand through her bangs, adjusting it. "So glad you could meet us for this."
"So am I," he nodded. "You guys said this was about Homura?"
"The boss of those thugs you battles the other day," Tiger nodded. Mandalay tapped her cat fingers on a laptop keyboard, and the projector turned on, revealing an image of a man.
It was a shot of him walking down a street, dark strands of his hair falling over his face, partially obscuring his features. A scar over his left eye reaching to his upper lip, cutting through his mustache, was a bit darker than his pale skin. His eyes glowed a vibrant orange, like flames.
