"Whatever." I see him roll his eyes.
I take a deep breath to try and calm myself down. "I mean, you guys really thought I would take that to prom?" I throw out a jab.
"And by that do you mean me? The most handsome, charming, sexiest man on the planet?" he responds, part of his ego shining through his words.
"No. I mean the manwhore who's also an asshole who's also gonna have 20 dates to prom. That's what I mean by that." I explain, making myself clear.
"Whatever Em." he rolls his eyes and leans back into the couch.
"Anyways..." Elliot diverts off our conversation. "What was the point of all of that?"
"Oh c'mon, you guys really don't know what day it is?" I give them all a look. "I mean, I would think at least Nate and Finn would know. They're the only ones here with some sort of logic."
I hear the two of them laugh while my comment makes everyone check their phones.
"Ohhh." I hear Tyler come to the realization. "It's April Fool's Day." he laughs.
"I think I put on a phenomenal performance if I do say so myself." I boast.
"Bravo. What do you want? An award?" Jackson mutters from the end of the couch.
I shoot him a look before turning my attention back to the others. "Looks like someone's mad..." I whisper.
They laugh quietly.
"Anyways, which photo did you guys like better?" I ask, referring to my question from earlier.
"The one in the end zone." Nate says.
"Same." Tyler adds.
I look at Elliot. "Same."
Then at Finn. "Same."
I conclude the tally there and start to stand up. "Thank you guys." I grab my bag off the floor and reach for my laptop.
"So you don't want my opinion?" Jackson pipes up.
"Don't need it. Don't want it. Don't care for it if I'm being honest." I let out a small laugh before walking towards the archway.
"Fuck you." I hear him mumble.
"Oh wouldn't you like to do that." I roll my eyes, throwing his insult from a few nights ago back at him.
"Emery." Elliot snaps behind me.
I slowly turn around and see the looks on their faces.
"Sorry," I threw my hands up in defense. "You know I don't have a filter sometimes."
I laugh at the expression on Elliot's face. He hates when Jackson and I make those kinds of remarks towards each other.
I can understand why, but listen, he started it. And I'm not one to back down.
"Just forget I even said anything." I waved off his gaze and started heading upstairs.
~~~~~
"You know you were cracking me up yesterday." Finn said as we sat next to each other.
"Yeah, well I seem to do that to a lot of people." I boast.
"Whatever," he punches me on the shoulder.
"But I was obviously joking. You know I would never actually ask him. I would rather die than do that." I scrunch my nose at the thought of it.
"Yeah, you two can barely stay in the same room together without bickering." he laughs.
It was the middle of art class and we were finishing up our end of the year projects. It was a couple of sketches and a choice of a painting or a collage.
Of course, I chose a collage.
I mean, I'm the head of the yearbook club so that was an easy choice. I take pictures all the time.
I turn around not paying attention, "So, what are you doing this sum-"
I'm cut off by the sound of something falling over. I swing my head towards whatever I just hit and, oh shit.
It was a water bottle. And an open one at that.
"Fuck." I seethed through my teeth.
Picking up the water bottle I looked down at the only sketch I had finished. It was completely ruined.
Finn picked it up and moved it away but there was no use. "Just throw it out. I'll redo it." I told him.
He nods and throws it away as I try to contain the water on the table.
"Mrs. Klein, do you have paper towels anywhere?" Finn asks.
"Why? What happened?" She stood up from her desk.
"Water spilt." I gave her a short answer.
"Oh goodness." she sighs. "My last class used the rest of the paper towels, so you guys can go to the store room."
I stepped over the small puddle and towards her desk. She gave me a set of keys and I left the room with Finn.
We were a few feet down the hall before we started laughing. "Well that's one way to leave class." I swung the keys around my finger.
We took our time walking in the halls. Both of us are definitely not in a rush to get back.
"So are you ready for the summer league?" I ask.
"I honestly can't wait. Haven't played a real game in so long." he admits.
I nod at his answer as we continue walking.
Where I live, football is a big deal. In Georgia it always is. Especially at the college and highschool level.
My area specifically had such pride in their teams. So much so, that over the years this summer league came to be. It's basically the schools you play during the season just over the summer.
Practices are 2-3 times a week with games on the weekends. I only know this because El and Tyler are on the team.
It starts in two weeks and everyone goes to support their teams. It's kind of like football season but extended.
So it's fun to watch over the summer.
I snap out of my thoughts when I hear someone walking towards us.
I look up and see Jackson. Ugh, kill me now.
Him and Finn exchange nods, "Where are you two going?" he asks.
"To get paper towels." Finn tells him.
I don't even try to hide the fact that I don't want him here.
He seems to notice as he stops and turns around, now walking with us. "I'll go with you guys. Math or whatever the fuck we're doing in that class can wait."
I watch him give me a grin as Finn laughs. I roll my eyes and we slow our pace again. I see the closet a few doors down and once we reach it, I find the key out of the many hung around it.
I stick the key into the lock and turn it. When I open the door I hear voices.
Looking up there's only one thought running through my mind.
What the fuck.
