It was time for the third practice, with only an hour remaining before the Qualifying session. Winning the Qualifying was just as important as winning the race because starting from the back of the grid would make it much harder.

Alice had arrived at the track alone this morning, determined to beat Max there so she wouldn't have to walk with him. She was still upset about how he had acted after losing the previous race. While she was sitting on her chair and reading something on her phone, her dad approached her.

"Hey, dad," she greeted him. This was the first time they had spoken that day.

"Explain yourself," he said, showing her an article he had been reading. The first image was of her and Charles from the previous day.

"What do I have to explain?"

"This can't happen, Alice. Are you stupid? People think you're dating Max, and that was helping us, but you came and ruined everything we've built."

"There's nothing between me and Charles," Alice protested. "He only helped me yesterday, and he's related to Max. I hate being seen with Max. I hate pretending to be something I'm not. I'm your daughter, not Max's girlfriend. So, no, Dad, I'm not stupid like you may think. I'm just exhausted."

"Don't talk to me like that," he warned.

"I can't talk to you like that, but you can call me stupid? Really?" Alice walked away from him, realizing what she hated most about the situation. She hated how her dad cared more about the team and Max than he did about his own daughter.

Angry tears streamed down her face. She walked to the backside of the pits and sat on the floor, trying to calm herself. She closed her eyes and attempted to think about something else.

"Everything okay?" a voice interrupted her thoughts. That voice was one of the reasons this was happening. Alice opened her eyes slowly and met Charles' green gaze.

"Yeah," she replied before standing up. "Good luck today." Then, she walked away.

"Alice?" Charles called after her. "What's going on?"

"There are articles about us, Charles. My dad found out, and everything is ruined. I can't be near you," she said, not turning to see how her words affected him.

Charles was stunned by what Alice said. He had no idea that their interaction the previous day had been captured by the media. He couldn't help but feel disappointed as Alice walked away, but he knew that this was not the time or place to talk about it.

As he watched her leave, Charles couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the situation than Alice was letting on. He decided that he needed to talk to her and find out what was really going on.

With that in mind, Charles quickly made his way back to the team garage. He needed to focus on the upcoming race, but his thoughts kept drifting back to Alice and the situation they found themselves in. He knew that he had to put it out of his mind and focus on the race, but it was easier said than done.

As he prepared for the race, Charles couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him and Alice. He knew that he had feelings for her, but he also knew that the situation was complicated. He would have to wait and see what happened, but for now, he needed to focus on winning the race.
