Start from the beginning

You decide to give him some personal space for now and you start walking to your room when you hear Al Mualim calling for you, so you hurry to the library. "What is it, Mentor?" you ask after you reach the library. "I have assigned Altaïr to kill nine Templar targets. I would appreciate it if you help him, Y/N" he explains. "So, I'm also being demoted?" you say sarcastically. "No," Al Mualim replies. "But I thought it would be good exercise for you...and you get to tease Altaïr." he adds with a twinkle in his eye.

Later, Altaïr's POV

He sighs as he sits on the edge of his bed. Demoted to fucking Novice, and for what? Breaking the Creed? He was annoyed at Al Mualim's decision, and the fact that Y/N was probably going to outrank him if they were assigned to aid in his mission to kill the nine Templars on the list he was given.

Tamir, Garnier de Naplouse, Talal, Abu'l Nuqoud, William of Montferrat, Majd Addin, Jubair Al Hakim, Sibrand and an obvious name, Robert de Sablé. He sighs and puts the list on the small table beside his bed. He sighed, lying down on his bed and contemplating his actions. Maybe his ego was too large to complete the mission within the Creed. He should have taken Y/N's advice a year ago, but he didn't. He started thinking of Y/N. Their soft H/L H/C hair, their fiery and sarcastic personality, their hypnotizing E/C eyes.

He pushed those thoughts aside and went to Al Mualim for information on his first test. If he wanted to start his hunt, he had to reacquire his weapons.

Later in the village of Masyaf (there's a fortress called Masyaf which is the home of the Assassins and the village is a sort of extension), your POV

You and Altaïr weave through the small village, not speaking a word to each other because you were hunting the traitor who opened the gates for the Templars. You had your weapons, Altaïr had nothing. "So, Novice, how does it feel so far?" you whisper to him jokingly as you both blend in with the crowd. "Ha ha, very funny." he whispered back sarcastically. You could see a small bit of heat appear on his cheeks, but it was mostly concealed by the shadow of his hood.

You and Altaïr eavesdrop on the conversation, hearing that a basket weaver was an accomplice in the betrayal. You and Altaïr decide that you should pickpocket the letter the basket weaver is carrying, since you were better at it. You pickpocket the letter and bring it back to Altaïr, where you discover that there were two traitors.

One was a herald named Masun, who was someone you knew and the other an Assassin named Jamal, who was your acquaintance. You let Altaïr do the interrogation of Masun, then you both bring him to Al Mualim.

Al Mualim gave Masun a saving grace to repent or to die. Masun, in his stubborn manner, defied the chance of repentance Al Mualim gave him, so Al Mualim ran his longsword through Masun and handed the sword to Altaïr once the deed was done.

Timeskip to after the assassination of Tamir, Altaïr's POV

Y/N was relaxing next to him in the Damascus bureau, resting after the assassination of Tamir. They looked absolutely stunning when the sunlight hit them, making them seem like an ethereal being. He felt his face heat up, but was too slow to put his hood up. "Why are you blushing?" they ask. Oh shit, he thinks. I've been caught

"..."

"Come on, you can tell me. I won't tell anyone, I promise." they say.

"So, you know how we've been spending a lot more time together since we started this mission?" he asks.

Y/N nods, signaling for him to continue. "Well, I have a crush on you..." he says nervously.

He sees a small smile forming at the corners of Y/N's mouth and more heat rises to his cheeks. "Well, I actually like you the same way I just never knew how to express it." they said, a bit sheepishly.

Y/N takes their hood off, revealing their soft H/L H/C hair. Before he can even process what's happening, they've already started kissing him. It felt so good to finally tell Y/N and have his feelings reciprocated.

The two hear a coughing and applause at the door and break apart. "Good job, lovebirds. Finally." Rafiq says. "Fucking third wheel." Y/N whispers to him.

Years later, your POV

The threat of Al Mualim was finally gone and peace had returned to the Brotherhood for now. You had given birth to twin boys, Darim and Sef, a year before and you and Altaïr were now expecting another child (if you're AMAB nonbinary, intersex etc you can adopt these kids by the way) that was due in two months. Altaïr was really excited for this child, but he also had a Brotherhood to lead and an Apple of Eden to study. You smiled at the happy family you had. You were content.
