"I want you..." you said
"In the way that the moon wants the tide."
It was a simple line,
A cliche to all reason
But those words danced and tapped
And struck me in my barely beating heart.
I had never been wanted before,
And I had forgotten what it was like to want someone so badly.
To have their voice be pure oxygen to your lungs after an exhausting day.
Their face be a lighthouse in the dark ocean you find your morality in
I had forgotten what it was like to imagine their arms wrapped around you on a quiet night
And the salads you put two kinds of dressings on.
I had never have someone look at me with such pure, agonizing love.
Or tell me that I am "breathtaking" seconds after seeing my face for the first time.
I had forgotten what it was like to say something that means greater than love,
To what to whisper this into their ear and scream it in the rain,
To want them to know the yearning you have for them.
And yet still I can never bring myself to say
"I want you too."
