5 Minute Poem

We were sitting at a low budget Taco Bell
Both knowing we would be getting food poisoning that night
We hated the restaurant
But we kept going.
Kept listening to the broken radio
and smelling spilled refried beans another table had left
My face was turning shades of purple as I tried to calm myself
Gently squeezing the wedding ring in my finger in
A promise of something you broke
The waitress called your order
And you left to go get it
I still go to that Taco Bell sometimes
Still order the same combo
Still pass that leaky yellow fire hydrant and step over rain puddles
Still wonder
What would've happened
If you didn't cheat on me
If I didn't bring you here
Confront you
Would you still be alive?
If the waitress hadn't poisoned you?
